THE LIFE & SLIMES OF MARC SUMMERS Alleyway Theatre
Theater has become very serious.
There are no illusions of seriousness inside the Alleyway Theatre, with a hilarious production of “The Life & Slimes of Marc Summers.”
You don’t know who Marc Summers is?
It matters to Alleyway impresario Chris Handley because the opening night was packed with people who knew exactly who Marc Summers is and roared laughter through the performance mixing and matching his life and his professional life as host of TV shows, like “DoubleDare” on Nickelodeon with its flying liquids, insane physical comedy and enough whipped crime to thin out the supply at Rich Products.
And, there is also Michael Nappi.
While Summers talks about his life and career, Nappi is performing the 34 different roles which make the show work, which must require lots of backstage help, changing costumes and everything else as he hurtles on and off stage.
“Life and Slimes” is a show which requires speed and movement to keep it all going because it’s all so crazy.
Actually, Summers admits he’s a little crazy himself, OCD.
That cost him a job.
This is a guy who wanted to be a host on TV since he was a kid and worked up the ladder for one of the rarest roles in TV, that host gig.
He was apparently really good at it in a couple of television genres.
At the same time, he portrays himself as fairly normal and still on his first marriage, as well as having two kids.
He even beats intestinal cancer.
It’s all funny, the host surrounded by madness, although I have seen some local newscasts along the same line.
Surrounded by madness in the real world, why not retreat to the craziness of the “DoubleDare” world of “The Life & Slimes of Marc Summers?”
