Which Upstate NY city accepted the most Syrian refugees this year?

As President Obama plans to increase the number of refugees admitted into the United States in 2017, new numbers reveal which cities in Upstate New York — and across the country — have accepted the most Syrian refugees in 2016.

Buffalo, NY, ranks eighth nationwide in number of Syrian refugees accepted in 2016, and first among cities in New York, The Buffalo News reported. The numbers come from federal statistics on the number of refugees from Syria admitted to the U.S. between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31 of 2016.

Buffalo's four refugee resettlement agencies have admitted 225 refugees from Syria so far this year, with more expected to arrive before 2017.
