Call to bring back Death Penalty in New York State

Apr 24, 2007 - A group of State Lawmakers are asking that the death penalty be brought back for those who kill law enforcement officials. The death penalty was declared unconstitutional in New York State in 2004.

4 Upstate Law enforcement officials have been killed in the line of duty since February of 2006. Trooper Andrew Sperr was killed by suspected bank robbers in March of 2006. Trooper Joseph Longobardo was shot by Ralph Phillips in September of 2006. And two Utica Police Officers have also been shot in the line of duty.
