Any solace in the most recent wave of unemployment claims across the nation does not include New York state.

The federal government reported 2.4 million initial jobless claims this past week — the lowest number since the Covid-19 outbreak in mid-March. Across New York state, however, more people filed for unemployment as of May 16 — 229,562 compared to 203,928 the previous week.
