I read with great mirth the whining in today’s shoe shine rag about a demolition permit issued in the city that authorized the removal of some decrepit dump as part of a redevelopment process. The “preservationists” were upset because they couldn’t get out of their own way in time to haul out the burdensome “preservation” process to use it to stop the development. If the property was truly “historic” why hadn’t this group of clowns rallied around it before it was even in danger of demolition. This is just one more in hundreds of examples that prove that hysterical “preservation” has almost nothing to do with preserving the truly historic and everything to do with trying to stop redevelopment.
