The land clearing and grading for the new Delta Sonic project has begun. The site is located adjacent to the Kohl’s Department Store at 4835 Transit Road in the Town of Lancaster.

This site will be located on Transit Road between the intersections of William / Losson Roads and French Road – a near one mile stretch of five-lane state highway, with a daily vehicular count of near 37,000 vehicles, 30 driveways, and no signalization.

Signalization is planned at the Delta Sonic and Jessica Lane intersection after the car wash / service center is in operation and when the GBRNTRC performs a traffic study to ensure one is warranted.

Delta Sonic will share its driveway with Kohl’s when operations begin and when signalization is warranted by the state (NYDOT) and installed.

Shopped at Kohl’s today and was fortunate to make right hand turns to access the store (going north) and making another right to exit the property (going north). Had to wait a few minutes for traffic to ease to make a safe turn. Kohl’s shoppers making left turns to access or exit the property were not so lucky and faced several conflict situations.

When the Delta Sonic opens without a signalized driveway and until the time signalization is found warranted by NYSDOT this will be an area to avoid. The two driveways are only a few hundred feet apart.

And then there is the Transit Road Chick-fil-A project planned for the Cheektowaga side at the intersection of Transit and Losson Roads – fronting Wegmans and across from Target and Wal-Mart. Signalization traffic backups already exist at this intersection. What could possibly go wrong?
