Financial constraints have forced the Allentown Association, owners of the Coit House on Virginia Street, to abandon plans to turn the oldest house in Buffalo into a museum and instead put the property on the local real estate market.
The association has retained Susie Lenahan from Gurney Becker & Bourne to sell the circa 1813 three-story, 4,500-square-foot home. The asking price: $149,900.
The Coit House has eight bedrooms, with four each on its second and third floors. It also has a small guest house and one-car detached garage.
"Given its history and location, I think a buyer will emerge quickly," Lenahan said.
To help generate interest, an Aug. 7 open house has been scheduled at the property, 414 Virginia Street, between Elmwood and Delaware avenues.

Suppose this place burns down. What building is next in line to win the wonderful crown of "oldest house in buffalo"?
