At least 300 people figure Mayor Byron W. Brown is vulnerable. But even their candidate wants them to brace themselves.

"Make no mistake, we are the underdogs," Mark J. F. Schroeder told his South Buffalo base and dozens of other well-wishers who traveled to South Buffalo's Historic Lodge to cheer the city comptroller Sunday as he kicked off his campaign for Buffalo mayor.

Don't really know anything about the guy so why do you think he is a dipsh*t?

Personal take is it would be nice to see a power shift in the city to North and South Buffalo away from the East Side orgs. The preachers have been tending to their flocks quite well based on the proximity to Brown....

Why not explain or give reason for your comment...Obviously you like to character assassinate ...and give no reasonable criteria or factual info that would make you publicly disrespect this public official....or is it just because he is a politician?...and you hate all politicians?

I don't hate all politicians. I heard Mark Schroeder speak on the floor of the county legislature numerous times when that body was burdened by his membership. At the best his comments typically bordered on the nonsensical. As city comptroller his activities are strictly regulated because of the everpresent specter of the the control board. He'll be a disaster for the city of Buffalo.

City Hallways (March 13): The last Buffalo comptroller to become mayor

    Mayoral history

Ever since Mark Schroeder announced he's running for mayor, I've been wondering when the last time was – if there was a last time – that a sitting Buffalo comptroller challenged an incumbent Buffalo mayor.

I finally got an answer from Schroeder.

    Buffalo Comptroller Mark Schroeder

He told me about Republican Chester Kowal, a three-term city comptroller who, in 1962, challenged then one-term Democratic Mayor Frank Sedita.

    Kowal won.

It's funny how you remember certain things from when you were a kid.

When the former owner of the bar my dad owned died, the guys wife didn't want to hold the mortgage anymore. So my dad whose credit apparently wasn't the greatest got the money from Ralph Saft mentioned in this article. All that I can remember is my dad referring to Saft as a loan shark.

He only won with 38.1% of the vote.
The rest of the votes were split between The Democrat candidate Victor Manz and Sedita running as an Independent

Schroeder backs Central Terminal for new train station

Add mayoral candidate and city Comptroller Mark J.F. Schroeder's name to the list of Buffalo officials who favor locating a new train station at the Central Terminal, a list that also includes Council President Darius G. Pridgen and Fillmore Council Member David A. Franczyk – and the rest of the Council, as well.

And cost estimates released at a public meeting earlier this week – which show the price tag for a Central Terminal station could be as much as double the cost of a downtown location – don't seem to be changing any of their minds.

Either you have a room at the historical society or your house is a museum......

You were born too late Rez...Still I would rather have Schroeder than Brown at this juncture.

Born too soon. I'd would have rather be more in the future than in the past. I just had a box of history walk through the door this week. I like to skim it not live it.
