    Weekend political absurdity

    • According to Reuters, March is on track for 100,000 border apprehensions, which would be the highest monthly number in more than a decade. And yet, Democrats continue to deny there is a border emergency. Most of those people can remain in the United States while their asylum claims are processed, which can take years because of ballooning immigration court backlogs. There have been ten so-called caravan to depart for the United States since October.

    • Texas towns are being inundated with refugees released because of overcrowding at border holding centers. In McAllen, Texas Organizers there are used to handling 200 to 300 migrants a day. Lately, the migrants have been arriving at a clip of around 800 a day, overflowing the respite center and straining city resources. “It’s staggering,” McAllen City Manager Roy Rodriguez said. “Really, we’ve never seen anything like this before.”

    • Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez falsely claims Republicans amended Constitution to kick FDR out of office. The no-third term amendment was passed in 1947. FDR died in 1945.

    • Trump cuts aid to three Central American countries as migrant crisis deepens - El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. FOX news ran a banner that read: "TRUMP CUTS AID TO 3 MEXICAN COUNTRIES"

    • Former Nevada Assembly member Lucy Flores claims Joe Biden acted inappropriately to her and countless others with his hugs and kisses. Flores who will support Sanders or O’Rourke in the primary says it was not down for political reason.

Poor Uncle, Joe. Not political? Seriously?

    • Campaigning in El Paso, Beto O’Rourke claimed America is a safer place because of immigrants. “We are safe, not despite the fact that we are a city of immigrants and asylum seekers. We are safe because we are a city of immigrants and asylum seekers.”

Hey Beto, it was reported that organizations don't have the necessary resources to care for the asylum seekers. What's your plan? They could be here for a long stay!

Forgot to add: Trump closing the border.

Thank God that the election is 21 months away. Maybe, just maybe something good will come out of this madness!

I am just curious to know, when AOC ran for election to the HR, did she think those initials stood for high school "Homeroom Representative?"

She is really just plain stupid (which I do not believe), or is an actress deliberately playing stupid in order to justify the media's passive acceptance of her lying, word-twisting Socialist garbage (which I do believe).

True, the 22nd Amendment process began early in the Republican-controlled 80th Congress, and was in fact a reaction to the FDR Pontificate.

But, equally true, such amendment was discussed as early as late 1939, when the Democrats controlled the Congress. Those discussions were occasioned by suspicions that FDR was about to break the two-term George Washington tradition.

What Commissar Cortez does not tell everyone is that many Democrats, in 1939 and in 1947, also supported the two-term limit. One such Democrat was former FDR campaign manager James A. Farley, who permitted his name to be entered into nomination at the 1940 Democrat Convention, as a protest against FDR's decision to seek a third term. In fact, after Farley was defeated, he would not directly endorse Roosevelt, saying only that he was "a life-long Democrat" and in 1940, would "vote the straight Democrat ticket." Those distant words were hardly a ringing endorsement from the mastermind of FDR's 1928 and 1930 Gubernatorial victories, and his 1932 and 1936 Presidential victories.

Furthermore, the 22nd Amendment SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDED from compliance, the President in office at the time of ratification. When ratified in 1951, that was President Truman.

Ergo, if Harry S., a Democrat, had he wanted and had he been re-elected, could have remained President until December 26, 1972, or were the events of that date somehow impacted by the evil Republicans as well?

What is laughable, years ago when Biden was cutting his political teeth in the 1970s, if a guy was not "touchy-feely" he was characterized as emotionally constipated and incapable of demonstrating emotions.

Now, he is out of sink with contemporary Leftist standards, and is considered to be a border line pervert. Seriously?

Biden was first elected Senator on the same day Nixon was re-elected on 1972. IMHO, if he goes on a 47-year apology tour, he won't make it to the first Democrat Candidates Debate,

I found Kathleen Parker’s (Washington Post) column in the Buffalo News today both interesting and relevant. I am that old, white guy male whose intelligence and values are being questioned, labeled a racist, sexist and exhibiting all characteristics of being downright deplorable and not worthy of the new left Democratic Party measure of inclusiveness and tolerance.

But you still want my vote, right?

Unable to link the publication, here it is in full print edition.

Biden and Beto’s apologies won’t get them far in era of gotcha politics

WASHINGTON – It may be a truism- in-the-making that one’s political career is over when, as a candidate, you must first apologize for your sex and race, which can mean only one thing: Young or old, you’re a white guy.

Heaven forbid you should also be long of tooth and taupe of hair.

The Old White Men meme, usually used to describe the Republican Party, seems to have finally won the day. Because the GOP has become increasingly older, whiter and male the past several decades – and since the Republican Party recently has done little to recommend itself to women and minorities – the widely accepted inference is that OWM are inherently bad, if not evil or criminal.

Conservative white women don’t fare much better, but at least they’re female and, as such, may be viewed as having suffered the boot of the white male until relatively recently. Ah, but that’s ancient history, right? “Women Rule” today, according to another popular meme. And, in light of the 2018 midterm results, it may well become true.

In an unexpected twist in the 2020 election season, even some white male Democrats are facing a newly evolved Court of Prior Offenses, which, apparently, can include being born white. If you were born of white privilege, you’re in for a bake sale’s worth of humble pie.

Plainly, we’ve crossed a Rubicon of sorts. In this time and place, the emerging battle lines aren’t just demographically defined but constitute a historical reckoning.

It isn’t enough that women and minorities ascend. It is now seemingly necessary that the oppressor pay for the sins of his forefathers. No one reading this needs a lecture about colonialism, slavery, genocide or Jim Crow, to mention a few index items.

But all of that history – combined with the emergence of the #MeToo and Black Lives Matter movements, an increasingly diverse society and, notably, the Worst White Guy in Modern America, President Trump – has coalesced to produce a new litmus test for future presidents: Are you a white man? And, if so, are you sorry?

So, these two white guys walk into a bar, where Brenda Lee is on the jukebox singing, “I’m Sorry.”

Not really, but Beto O’Rourke and Joe Biden have both begun apology tours that could become their undoing. In a recent interview, O’Rourke acknowledged “the truth of the criticism” that he was born of privilege and, as a white male, had more opportunities than others. He already had apologized for writing prose as a teenager about running over children. He also apologized for making an offhand remark about sometimes helping his wife with their three children. Note to Beto: This will never end. Once you start apologizing, especially for things over which you had no control, you are more likely to be perceived as weak – and not real smart.

Biden is remorseful for everything – for supporting a 1994 crime bill, for having called Vice President Pence a “decent guy” – and especially for his role in the Clarence Thomas Supreme Court hearings long ago. Then chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Biden regrets the way Anita Hill was treated – with tough questioning and, as I recall, a hostile environment. All those white men and this lone, black woman. As they say, it wasn’t optically optimum.

Additionally, Biden is very upset about what he terms “white man’s culture,” referring to the environment in which women have been afraid to speak up in cases of sexual harassment. Well, OK, but if we’re going to blame White Man’s Culture for all of that, then we ought to add a footnote about the genius of the founders, the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and, if we’re still allowed to use the term, Western civilization.

Trump’s success, unfortunately, is based in part upon his attention to white voters who feel marginalized by a culture they increasingly don’t recognize, including the blue-collar white guys who used to vote Democratic.

This is not calculus, but it was a calculation that Trump got right. With the end of the Mueller investigation and the wackiness emanating from the far left, he may be poised to win again.

If Democrats want to woo renegade Republicans and independents – and evict Trump from the White House – they’d best focus on uniting their constituents under a banner of shared values rather than encouraging good men to apologize for being born.

Besides, as most men know, saying you’re sorry is never enough.

Another demoralizing week of political claptrap and absurdity to make one wonder if there is an adult in the room? Is there someone who really cares what they think or what they choose to say that will further the best interest of the country over that of their own best interest?

    Stupid is as stupid does:

    • Trump’s repeated threats / proposals and repeated reversals - border closing, rescinding Obama Care proposal, proposing alternate Obama Care plan with no plan in place, etc..
    • Democrats assuring damaging information in Mueller report will come to light..
    • Health Care – Republicans have no plan in place to replace Obama Care.
    • Poor old Uncle Joe dares to invade personal space; Obama’s silence lets Joe hang in the wind. Biden looks foolish in his apology.
    • Sen. Bernie Sanders says he'll release his tax returns 'very shortly,' urges Trump to do likewise – who really cares and why?
    • Dems continue to claim there is no border crisis. Beto wants wall removed. Illegal Immigration levels may reach half a million over next three months. Texas towns are being overwhelmed with undocumented immigrants.
    • Al Sharpton is becoming a force behind the Dem Party agenda’ Scary!
    • O'Rourke compares Trump's immigrant rhetoric to Third Reich!
    • Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) compares climate change deniers to people who fought against civil rights in America. Seriously? She also claims it is ok to make incorrect claims as that is the way one learns. Well, she has a lot to learn. She and the left fringe threaten to run opponents against any Dem incumbent who dares question or oppose their philosophy.
    • Ocasio-Cortez supports reparation payments, payments to individuals who don’t want to work, free tuition, and proposes a New Green Deal resolution that opponents are labeling as impractical / unaffordable and not in the best interests of those who can’t afford to adopt / pay for sustainable energy. However, she is intimidating / influencing her fellow presidential candidates to follow her direction (or else) and fringe left socialists.
    • As usual, the collective media has its head up its asses; nothing is sacred, no life spared from malicious attack and where everything is based on so-called inside sources and/or anonymous leakers.

Excepting being someone who does believe in climate change, this week’s political absurdities indicate that I am still a ‘deplorable’ - certain there is border crisis; a need to reform the immigration system (where refugee asylum claim is not a guaranteed entry pass); being totally against a ‘socialist’ style government; for thinking the New Green Deal in long on fantasy, but short on being realistic, makes me a racist, sexist, xenophobe cretin.in the eyes of the fringe left.

There is still 20 months until Election Day. 18 announced Democratic candidates and several more contemplating joining the foray. Despite a strong economy, a high consumer confidence level, the lowest unemployment rate in 40 years, millions of immigrants wanting to get into our country for a better life, there is a movement in this country to castigate our political / capitalist system and burn it to the ground and rebuild it in the name of social justice.

What a **** country we live in, eh? Obama, Pelosi and Schumer created a monster they cannot control.

Do undocumented students get free tuition in state budget?
The state budget fully funds “an initiative to provide free college tuition for illegal immigrants, while rejecting an increase in Tuition Assistance Program funding that would help middle-class families afford college.”
    — New York State Senate Minority Leader John Flanagan

    By Jill Terreri Ramos
    SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

Senate Republicans took aim at the recently passed New York State budget, the first spending plan in years to be crafted with Democrats in control of both houses of the Legislature and the Governor’s Office.

“After months of warning about the disastrous effects of one-party government, New York’s worst nightmare has been realized with the 2019-20 state budget,” Senate Minority Leader John Flanagan said in a statement.

The Long Island Republican criticized many of the $175.5 billion budget’s provisions.

That included the budget’s call to fund the Jose Peralta New York State Dream Act, which allows undocumented students to access state financial aid. It is named in honor of a senator who championed the legislation before he died in 2018.

“Because of the new one-party government in New York, other Democrat-driven priorities that made it into the final budget include fully funding an initiative to provide free college tuition for illegal immigrants, while rejecting an increase in Tuition Assistance Program funding that would help middle-class families afford college.”

We have heard this claim before and wanted to know if it is true.

    Dream details

The Dream Act, which provides tuition assistance to undocumented students, was passed by the Assembly and Senate, but it has not yet been signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Cuomo’s news release on the budget agreement between his administration and the Legislature states the spending plan “implements and fully funds the Jose Peralta New York State Dream Act for $27 million.”

Cuomo’s budget proposal, released in January, outlined his priorities and explained the Dream Act.

“The Dream Act will give undocumented students access to the Excelsior Scholarship, the Tuition Assistance Program, as well as other state-administered scholarships,” according to Cuomo’s budget briefing book. “A $27 million FY 2020 investment in young immigrants’ futures is an investment in New York’s future.” A spokesman for the state Division of Budget, Freeman Klopott, confirmed that the description of the Dream Act in the briefing book is still accurate in the final budget.

Scott Reif, a spokesman for Flanagan, said the enacted budget contained $27 million for the Dream Act, which provides “free college tuition for people who are here illegally.”

As for funding for the state’s Tuition Assistance Program, or TAP, Senate Republicans favored expanding access by increasing the award and by raising the income limits to allow families to qualify for it, Reif said. TAP provides grants for students to study at public or private institutions. Senate Democrats also wanted to increase funding for TAP, and they included an expansion in their one-house bill – so named because an identical bill was not carried in the Assembly. The TAP expansion was not included in the final budget, he said.

Funding for TAP increased from $915.3 million to $947.7 million. The vast majority of the increase, $27 million, will fund Dreamers, Klopott said. The rest of the increase, $5.4 million, is for other students, he said. Not counting the $27 million for Dreamers, the TAP allocation increased less than 1 percent.

A spokesman for Cuomo called Flanagan’s statement “false and misleading” because it ignores other actions in the budget to expand access to higher education through the state’s Excelsior Program, which provides free tuition at SUNY and CUNY campuses for in-state students.

“The Excelsior Program will enter the third and final year of a three-year phase-in, with the income eligibility increasing to allow New Yorkers with household incomes up to $125,000 to be eligible,” said Cuomo spokesman Don Kaplan.
The Excelsior Scholarship has several rules recipients must follow, including a stipulation that they live in New York State for the length of time the award was received.

    Our ruling

“free college tuition” for people who are in the United States illegally, and that it does not expand TAP grants for the middle class. The budget does implement the Dream Act, which allows undocumented immigrants to apply for tuition assistance programs and to receive that assistance if they meet the established criteria. But it did increase TAP funding by $5.4 million for other students – a small increase, but an increase nonetheless.

We rate Flanagan’s claim Mostly True.

Another week of ‘As the stomach turns’

At its best, capitalism can create broad wealth and a strong middle class. But capitalism in America is far from being its best. Instead, this system has let money, property, power, and opportunity accumulate mostly at the very top of the food chain. Frustrated Americans everywhere are looking for an alternative to the fading status quo - socialism.

Despite a recent poll that showed that 2/3rds of those interviewed were opposed to any form of a socialist style government, the great majority of Democratic candidates are offering policies and programs progressing socialism – government provided Medicare for all, free tuition, guaranteed jobs & wages, lots of free stuff with no payment plan. Despite a strong economy, lowest unemployment rate in 50 years, etc., capitalism is broken and needs to be burned to the ground. Seriously?

There is no border crisis say the DEMS. There is a humanitarian crisis and it’s Trumps fault – actually, climate change says Ocasio-Cortez.

Pelosi says has the Democratic House under control saying the fringe has the ‘tweets’ but we have the votes – and assures victory in 2020. That’s good for some to hear, but what about the socialist agenda support coming from the fringe presidential candidates.

Ilhan Omar: “Someone did something to somebody on 9-11”. Despite spouting anti-Semitic and anti-American rhetoric, supporting socialism and misspeaking on CAIR founding, she receives support from the likes of Ocasio-Cortez and Talib. Ocasio Cortez cites the New York Post report as “an incitement of violence against progressive women of color.” The race card played once again.

CNN analyst Don Lemon: Our country is full. Trump is going to ban having babies.

Pelosi outraged that Trump suggested sending illegals to Sanctuary Cities. Why?

Democrats support a comprehensive immigration plan, but take no action to make it happen.

While the Democrats and media have repeatedly called out Trump as a habitual liar, un-presidential, corrupt and impeachable, they are outraged that suspicion is being cast on spying by the Clinton / Obama cohorts resulting from the dossier and FISA incidences.

    Our country is not full

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opini...=.39262ceefb36

No doubt, our immigration system is in need of sensible reforms, such as eliminating the visa lottery system, ending chain migration and imposing a mandatory E-Verify process. But an overall reduction in immigration would be disastrous for the country.

We need immigrants to stop population decline. We need immigrants to work and pay taxes that fund Social Security and Medicare for our aging population. And we need immigrants to provide the human capital for continued economic growth and prosperity. If the president wants to keep this economic boom going, he needs more people coming to the United States, not fewer.

So, yes, our shining city on a hill needs walls — because the world is a dangerous place, and we are a nation of laws. But, as President Ronald Reagan put in it his farewell address, those walls must also have doors. And the sign above those doors should read “Welcome to America” — not “Sorry, we’re full.”

    Spot on, Mr. Thiessen.

Unfortunately, our collective Representatives in Washington on both sides of the isle hate each other to the point that they act only in their best interests and agendas and not ours.

The hateful, absurd rhetoric and proposals coming from both sides makes one wonder if there is any meaningful leadership in Washington and any chance of bipartisanship ever happening when neither side will act on the chance that the other side gets any credit for a successful outcome.

Discounting Trump’s input on the Ilhan Omar inappropriate ‘some people did something’ remark’ when speaking on the takedown of the twin towers in 2001, I find it difficult to believe that many Americans are not offended by the reference, rather rushing to defend her.

To claim to be offended (or even outraged) by the insensitive reference to an event where near 3,000 lives were lost, or to dare to rebuke her for a statement results in an individual being labeled racist, sexist, and xenophobic – a deplorable. Tolerance and inclusion by the fringe left? I think not!

    Bizzare Lee.

In Omar's world, I wonder how Congress' Joint Resolution of December 8, 1941 would have read?:

JOINT RESOLUTION Declaring that a state of war exists between Some People and the Government and the people of the United States and making provisions to prosecute the same.

Whereas Some People have committed unprovoked acts of war against the Government and the people of the United States of America:

Therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the state of war between the United States and Some People which has thus been thrust upon the United States is hereby formally declared; and the President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the United States and the resources of the Government to carry on war against Some People; and, to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Congress of the United States.
This is the actual Joint Resolution of December 8, 1941:

JOINT RESOLUTION Declaring that a state of war exists between the Imperial Government of Japan and the Government and the people of the United States and making provisions to prosecute the same.

Whereas the Imperial Government of Japan has committed unprovoked acts of war against the Government and the people of the United States of America:

Therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the state of war between the United States and the Imperial Government of Japan which has thus been thrust upon the United States is hereby formally declared; and the President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the United States and the resources of the Government to carry on war against the Imperial Government of Japan; and, to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Congress of the United States.

Can’t help but believe that the hissy-fit that the Democrats and liberal media are now exhibiting over the Mueller report, demanding to see Trump’s IRS filings and numerous outrageous and specious claims are doing anything but enhancing Trump’s status.

The Dems have lost the election and are now losing face in pursuing this futile endeavor instead of getting back to addressing / resolving events and issues that are in the best interest of the county. Their focus should be on the citizenry, not pursuing activities that further divide and weaken the country.

We deserve better from the a-holes on both side of the political isle.

    Lee,

The "Fail Safe" position of many of the Democrats in Congress is now focused on impeachment, and relies on exploiting Presidential style by the application of cherry picking, word twisting, sentence shading, and the distortion of Presidential intent visa v obstruction. Specifically, the "I'm F....d" reference, which in context clearly reflects Trump's concern that the Mueller probe would derail and destroy his "Make America Great Again" agenda, and again in context, does not speak to his criminal liability.

That conduct of the Left suggests the J.R. Ewing command to Allan Beam to contrive evidence: "Allen, if it ain't there, put it there boy."

Hypocrisy, indeed – to the max

Uncle Andy and uncle Bill cry about SALT and budget revenue shortfalls but will find ways to tax the **** out of us New Yorkers to provide the resources to maintain illegals – even to the point of free tuition; while 51% of American citizens are living paycheck-to-paycheck.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opini...=.03fefca317a3

First, Democrats support releasing illegal immigrants into U.S. communities.

So, Democrats have been pretty clear — they want illegal immigrants released and allowed to live in the United States.

Where should they live? Well, it was Democrats who created “sanctuary cities” as sanctuaries for illegal immigrants. If they want illegal immigrants released, why would they oppose having President Trump release them into the very sanctuaries they created for that express purpose?

If anything, the Democratic leaders of those sanctuary cities are working overtime to turn them into magnets for illegal immigrants. For example, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) recently announced that his plan to provide health care to all New York residents would include illegal immigrants. “I refuse the notion that these folks don’t deserve health care,” de Blasio said.

Sorry, Democrats, you don’t get to have it both ways. You can’t on one hand try to force Trump to release illegal immigrants, create sanctuaries for them and arrange local laws to encourage illegal immigrants to come to those sanctuaries, and then simultaneously be outraged that Trump wants to do exactly what you have said should be done with those who cross our borders illegally.

Trump’s plan likely won’t ever come to fruition, but the president is effectively calling out Democrats for their hypocrisy.
