I simply do not like the idea of pitting class against class: The fundamental incendiary idea of Marxism.

Rather, I favor the fairness of one flat percentage tax on income.

The flat tax has been bandied about for decades. It went nowhere and never will.

Neither major party favors it. The progressive-socialist left can’t extract wealth from the moneyed, the moneyed conservative right would be unable to hire legal counsel to shelter their assets, and the middle class would wind up getting screwed; as usual.

An estimated 49% of Americans do not pay income taxes. An estimated 51% of Americans are living paycheck-to-paycheck. It is a tenuous situation at best and the socialist left wants to give out more free stuff at the expense of others.

    IMHO:

Lee, your position is well-thought out and limited.

However, what troubles me is the dangerous politically, economically, and socially exploitable class-envy card, which will always be played, and which will always be redefined in a downward trajectory by the Socialists.

Today, wealth may be as you define it: Those earning $5 Million plus per year. Tomorrow, it may be those who earn $3 million per year. Inevitably, the bar will continue to be lowered, because someone will always be poorer than someone else. Ergo, the class-envy, rich v. poor philosophy perpetually enables class demamgoguery with the attendant resentment and hatred.

As I see it, the "Tax The Rich" philosophy smacks of strong overtones of the "Redistribute The Wealth" position of Fr. Charles Coughlin. For that proposal, we don't need the IRS; all we need is a rabble-rousing "Community Organizer."

This is not yesterday’s America. It nowhere resembles the America my generation grew up in, where there was an opportunity for those who acted responsibly and worked hard could attain the American dream.

Immigrants then became citizens and assimilated. Culture, morals and values have changed dramatically. Today, divisiveness and hatred consumes the country.

Like you, I have believed that within reason a person should be able to keep the fruits of his labor. That ideology has gone by the wayside. Class warfare has existed for some time, albeit in full force today as the wealth gap increases. We have been 'redistributing the wealth' for some time now. The hard left's platform is to accelerate that distribution with no idea on how to pay for its promised 'free stuff'.

Hypocrisy and hyperbole are deep-rooted in both the Democratic and Republican Parties and it is the middle class that is being shortchanged and left behind. I know many families in that 51% of Americans living paycheck-to-paycheck; and with maxed credit cards trying to live a dream out of their reach. And then you hear some financial guru advising that we should be saving x-number of dollars per paycheck that is unreasonable for the average working family.

And then I read the progressive platform to tax the rich. I believe, Mark, that the wealthy ($5 million was an arbitrary number) should really include those with an income of $1 million, and more, to drag in the wealthy celebrity, sports, et al social justice warriors, putting them in a position to walk the talk. Inclusiveness is what they preach, right?

Robots and robotics are here and will dominate in the coming years. And we have hypocritical politicos who voted for a border barrier earlier and because of Trump hatred will now label the wall (barrier) immoral.

We are being deceived and ill managed by both sides, Mark, and in the process of not 100% aligning with either side risk being labeled a deplorable.

That observation is absolutely Spot On!

The Republicans screwed, and continued to screw, Trump to the exclusion of the national interests.

    https://buffalonews.com/2019/02/04/s...state-revenue/

Cuomo said the super-wealthy in New York – accounting for 1 percent of tax filers – end up paying 46 percent of the personal income taxes the state collects each year.

“Tax the rich. Tax the rich. Tax the rich. We did that. God forbid the rich leave," Cuomo said of a mobile group of people who can more easily switch residences to states with lower state and local tax levels.

Cuomo said the wealthiest of New York taxpayers account for only about several thousand people. The governor and administration aides say there is growing anecdotal evidence that some of those people have either moved from New York or are preparing for moves – acts that will have a disproportionate effect on personal income tax payments received by the state.

Perhaps Andy should get together with Cortez for some advice.

Perhaps Cuomo needs to build "A WALL," not in the image of Trump to keep illegals invaders out, but in the tradition of Khrushchev to keep freedom-loving people in?

Lee, you certainly had keen insights when you styled this thread "Had Enough Yet?"

Unless I missed something, tonight I had my fill.

Joe Martin introduced Harry Truman. Sam Rayburn introduced Dwight Eisenhower. John McCormick and Carl Albert introduced Richard Nixon, and so on, and so forth.

    Excuse the acronym, but WTF!

The Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, DID NOT INTRODUCE the President of the United States!

Rude, disgusting, and so much for respectful tradition.

At least the second man to walk on the Moon, Colonel Buzz Aldrin, saluted his Commander-In-Chief.

What many are going to find disgusting is the message from the white dress ladies that protecting unborn babies is wrong and illegal entry into the our country is okay.

All the BS aside Lee, I thought it was one of the best State of the Unions that I have ever seen and heard.

In his State of the Union Address tonight, President Trump strongly defended the the sanctity of life, stood steadfast against Socialism, and reaffirmed his commitment to build "The Wall," in order to protect the people of the nation that he now leads.

In one setting, he congregated the heroes of D-Day, the liberators of Dachau, and the survivors of the Holocaust, to poignantly recall America to its fundamentals, and to reassert its historic greatness.

Well done, but if he don't tweet something that will step on his great message, the Batsh***t crazy left will take a dump on it.

Well Mark, polls are indicating Trumps SOTU was well received by the majority of the viewers.

What pleased me was to hear Trump declare that America will never become a socialist country.

What was also interesting to hear today concerned the Virginia and Warren scandals coming to light today. The left has been demonizing the right for the same racist, sexist behaviors when in fact they are no better.

Let’s put all politicos through the same 30-40 years of personal scrutiny that Trump and Kavanaugh have gone through and see what shakes out. The **** flows both ways!

    Indeed Lee.

A CBS "Snap" poll had approval at 76%. ABC had a similar poll result, but ABC discredited its own poll by saying "Mostly, viewership of SOTU addresses are limited to Presidential supporters."

I think ABC has developed the vapours. That network most probably was pissed that Trump cut through its biased analysis, and hit a very positive responsive cord with its viewers.

Let's just apply some common sense here. Why in Hell would a pollster search for the opinion of someone who did not hear the speech?

Next to his request for legislation to ban Late Term Abortion, it was the strongest advocacy in the speech, IMHO.

Personally Lee, I believe that the source of horrible racist photo of Northam, although posted by a conservative, may well have been of the Left. I posted this on "Make NY Red:"

    February 2 at 12:21 AM
Let me throw this out here...

Remember how Northam described the proposed Third Trimester Abortion Bill which was under consideration in the Virginia Legislature?

Remember how his words seemed to reflect a description of Infanticide?

His words were truthful, and sent the evil Pro-Abortionists into a panic because those comments exposed their truthful evil plan.

Now the Left is "Shocked" at his past, and rightly condemns his horrible racist behavior.

    Let me get this straight:

Northam went through a major political campaign to get elected Governor of Virginia, one of the most powerful "Purple States," and NO ONE, DEMOCRAT or REPUBLICAN, ever checked his conduct in MEDICAL SCHOOL during the campaign?

    Give me a break!

The Pro-Abortion Democrats, and the prevalent RINOs in Virginia almost had to know of his past. After all, we are talking about his conduct in MEDICAL SCHOOL, in his post-college adult world, and not some BS high school yearbook as was the case with Kavanaugh.

I'll bet that the Pro-Abortion Left itself, Democrat and RINO, is the "source" of the posted yearbook information that outed Northam, in order to discredit the person that threatens to derail its hideous agenda.

Kinda makes Trump look like the ultimate truth teller: Both sides are establishment and suck.

    Just my two cents.

    Agreed.
Normally I wouldn't give a crap about someone doing blackface in college in the early 80s, but the left have been holier than thou accusers of racism at every turn for the last decade or more. They need to be held to the same stadards they've held others to.
Vote for freedom, not political parties.
    Politicians need to cut spending
