Polarization, hate and the political blame game

Crisis after crisis, government dysfunctionality and ineptness to coalesce to resolve problems and political party fighting for self-interest begets public hate, divisiveness and a weakened U.S.

    Scary stuff in today’s media:

    Polarization and threat to democracy

Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates said today that "extreme polarization" in the U.S. is currently the greatest threat to democracy in America. “The whole of our society seems to be coming unhinged. And there's just - I've never seen so much hatred," he said. "It seems to me that it underscores the theme that China is sounding around the world that the United States political system doesn't work, and that the United States is a declining power," Gates said.

A base that defends the defenseless

President Biden needs a base. "Every politician has to have a base," a member of Congress once said. "Your base is the people who are with you when you're wrong."

Biden has so far failed to deliver on many of his campaign promises - police reform, immigration, voting rights, a federal minimum wage hike, eliminating the filibuster. He did deliver a withdrawal from Afghanistan but in a way that most Americans saw as incompetent and humiliating. To make matters worse, the economic recovery appears to have stalled. Inflation is threatening to get out of control, which leads to speculation that Biden could become another Jimmy Carter.

Biden lacks the base previous presidents had. Democrats could abandon Biden if they don't believe he can offer them leadership and political cover.

    The fear factor

Trump overplayed "the fear factor." He was so vengeful, he ended up frightening the voters. And he paid a price for it at the polls in 2020.

Democrats could abandon Biden if they don't believe he can offer them political cover. That often happens when a president's job approval rating drops below 50 percent, which is what happened to Biden after the withdrawal from Afghanistan in August. Somewhere, sometime, members of Congress must understand that they cannot defy the president with impunity. They must fear him. Biden hasn't established "the fear factor" yet.

Defund the Police - Is New York next

Question 2 on the Minneapolis ballot, perhaps better known as the referendum on "Defunding the Police is up for public vote. The City of Minneapolis is a progressive, Democratic stronghold, yet the question will finally bring some clarity to how much mojo the "defund the police" movement really has against the backdrop of a city where gun violence is careening out of control.

A poll by PBS' Frontline with other local news organizations last month suggests Minneapolis voters are split fairly evenly on the issue of defunding the police, with a plurality indicating they would just as soon do away with the MPD.

    Inflation, the regressive tax

The idea that Biden’s policies help ordinary people by digging deeper into the pockets of the wealthy is not true.

The tirelessly and tiresomely repeated claim that the president’s plan would increase taxes only on people earning more than $400,000 is false. It is already dipping deeper into the pockets of everyone in this country, right down to those living below the poverty line.

By handing out unnecessary federal checks, to stimulate the economy, and by pressing for the biggest increase in further spending in history, Biden is stoking inflation. Because of him, more and more dollars are chasing goods that are in shortening supply in part because there are a record 10 million job vacancies nationwide.

Inflation is a regressive tax and one that falls disproportionately on the poor. Inflation takes buying power out of our pocket to pay for federal spending. What’s the difference? Only that that former is official and the latter stealthy. But both intentionally do the same thing.

Inflation is the most regressive tax of all. The “wealthy” — those well off enough to benefit from SALT, for example — spend a smaller proportion of their incomes on food and energy than the poor do. They have capital investments, such as in homes, the prices of which are rocket-boosted by inflation as the value of a dollar collapses. Inflation is the borrower’s friend because it reduces the value of debt, whether that be the debt piled up in Treasury paper by Biden & Co. or the mortgage debt of the upper-middle and wealthiest classes.

Inflation doesn’t benefit people who live hand to mouth or those who don’t have investments. Little guys do not own their own homes, or second homes, and spend far more of their income on goods and services needed for day-to-day living. So inflation hits them hardest. A government that lets inflation rip, as Biden’s administration has, is not on the side of the poor. It is taxing us even though it keeps insisting it isn’t.

In the past few months, like many others, I have personally been significantly impacted by rampant escalating grocery price increases, material and restaurant pricing increases and short staffing. Dollar General closure at 5 pm on a Saturday because of short staffing, incredible. Stockpiling and empty shelves once again, scary stuff.

    Climate change and security threats

Whether you believe in climate change, or not, whether you believe significant adverse planet impacts are near, or not, a new 37-page government report published by the Biden administration sounds a dire warning over the knock-on effects of climate change, which "will increasingly exacerbate a number of risks to US national security interests," according to agency assessments. An interesting report.

At report’s end, there is a link connecting to the 37-page White House memo.

White House warns 'no country will be spared' from national security threats related to climate change

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/polit...?ocid=msedgntp

What's outlined in the report is a dire assessment of how a warming planet and increasingly severe weather events can directly or indirectly worsen tensions between nations, as well as spur unprecedented mass migration from regions rendered uninhabitable by climate effects such as severe heat or rising oceans.

The report includes analyses from the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), and a section dedicated to how the climate crisis will impact migration across borders.

The ODNI assessment describes three broad categories of threats posed by the climate crisis:
    • A rise in geopolitical tensions "as countries argue over who should be doing more, and how quickly, and compete in the ensuing energy transition" of a warming planet.

    • "Cross-border geopolitical flashpoints" resulting from what the report identifies as "the physical effects of climate change," such as water shortages or uninhabitable levels of heat.

    • A strain on "country-level stability" in specific regions impacted by weather disasters and other effects of climate change.

    Alternate universes

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Friday that Democrats are almost within striking distance of winning a long-sought agreement on President Biden's expansive domestic agenda.

"We had a very positive meeting this morning; I'm very optimistic," she added after breakfasting at the White House. "It's exciting, because whatever it is, it's going to be bigger than anything we've ever done for the American people."

The plan seems likely to include universal preschool, paid family leave and the continuation of a child tax credit that was increased earlier this year and applied to more families. Democrats are scaling back some investments or shortening the timeframe for when those programs would be up and running to fit within an approximately $2 trillion budget over 10 years, rather than the $3.5 trillion budget plan originally envisioned.

So, what is the plan? Pelosi and left are saying one thing and Biden is speaking about drastic cuts to the $3.5 million social net program.

    Dr. Fauci

GOP calls for an investigation and the resignation of Dr. Anthony Fauci have escalated following this week’s revelation that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded gain-of-function research on the coronavirus.

The controversial research involves artificially engineering an animal virus in a laboratory setting to further examine how it becomes more easily transmissible and deadly to humans – a measure that Fauci told lawmakers was not utilized by the NIH.

But a letter from the NIH to Ranking Member Rep. James Comer of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform Wednesday admitted to a "limited experiment" conducted in order to test if "spike proteins from naturally occurring bat coronaviruses circulating in China were capable of binding to the human ACE2 receptor in a mouse model" – contradicting Fauci’s previous claims.

"For the past year and a half, critical decisions for the whole country have hinged off of Dr. Fauci’s advice and decrees. Two presidents have used his advice as the basis for our nation’s response to COVID-19," California Republican Rep. Doug LaMalfa said in a statement to Fox News Friday.

"Yet here we have incontrovertible proof that he has been intentionally lying to Congress," he added. "Dr. Fauci must resign and should face prosecution for perjury."

Waiting for the vaccine booster shot – not based on any trust in Dr. Fauci’s guidelines, prognosis, or credibility.

    Suck it up America

Your too soft America. This is the new ‘normal.’ Biden says we are making progress. If there is a perceived crisis, it’s not his fault – maybe even ours.

Jesse Watters lists the many crises facing Joe Biden, who is in 'fantasy land'

    https://www.foxnews.com/media/jesse-...e-biden-crisis

Inflation, hostage crisis, border crisis, gas prices, empty shelves, backlogged supply chains, labor shortage, high crime, pandemic, Chinese missiles, and a stalled agenda. If a presidency has three of these things, it’s in deep trouble. The Biden presidency is facing all these things at the same time. Alarm bells should be going off right now, but not in Biden’s fantasy land. Problems are really progress, everything’s fine, and Joe Biden is totally fine.

Yellen predicts inflation back to normal at end of 2022

As prices soar for groceries, gasoline, housing, etc., key inflation metrics rising to highest pace three decades, Treasury Secretary Yellen is predicting inflation will be back to normal by the end of 2022. She already sees signs of it abating.

Different than the ‘temporary’ inflation increase predicted by Biden and Yellen earlier in the year.

How could anyone not see this happening

Too few expressed opposition to the U.S. leaving Afghanistan. Trump and Biden were both wrong in planning to and doing so. The chaos, loss of lives and ensuing settlement of refugees in America proved the folly in doing so. And now the escalating humanitarian crisis.

Children are going to die', U.N. agency warns as Afghanistan verges on collapse

Millions of Afghans, including children, could die of starvation unless urgent action is taken to pull Afghanistan back from the brink of collapse, a senior United Nations official warned, calling for frozen funds to be freed for humanitarian efforts.

Protecting the American worker – NOT

As the Democratic 2.500-page $3.5 trillion safety net bill receives further review, reasons for its opposition become clearer. American job opportunities at risk from provision that allows unlimited number of green card holders and access to 10 years of residency.

    Why the doom and gloom

    • Shortages everywhere

    • Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's GDPNow model looks even more dire, projecting an annualized growth rate of only 0.5% in the third quarter.

    • US job openings spiked to a record 11.1 million

    • Inflation is eating up rising wages

    • Biden’s policies are not working, and consumer confidence is down – indicated by Biden’s sinking poll numbers

Cal Thomas, Tribune Content Agency, reports on forces adversely impacting the US

Terrorist forces include certain nation states like Iran, and those who would destroy by stealth include undocumented immigrants flowing across our southern border. Their intention may not be to destroy America, but that will be the effect if we don’t quickly stop the influx and discourage others from coming.

It’s almost laughable to hear some in the liberal media claim we have a “moral obligation” to help immigrants when we are ignoring the plight of women in Afghanistan and so many other areas to which the word “moral” might rightly be attached.

Reaction to the open border has been as predictable as the coming of the fall season. Some Democrat progressives shout racism because the latest flood includes Haitians. Signs rapidly appear. Some say, “stop deportation now!” Where did the signs come from? Who are the people carrying them and where do they come from? Is someone paying them? The media never ask these questions.

In public schools and too many universities of what I would describe as “lower learning,” America’s history is being re-written to shame young people and load them aboard the progressive train wreck. There are many stories of students returning home and accusing their parents of racism, and worse. The stain of racism can never go away despite the money that has been spent and the programs enacted to help lift descendants of slaves out of poverty and into better lives.

Values, morals, and economic principles that transformed this nation from an agrarian society to an industrial powerhouse to now a leader in technology, are all threatened by those who breach our borders.

If we don’t find the national political leadership to do something about our steady decline and defend ourselves, as in warfare (because war is what it is, though it is being fought with different weapons), we are at risk of oblivion. Will we follow the path of other nations that no longer exist or have become shadows of their former selves?

    Stop the insanity

Reported plans to pay separated illegals $450,000 each.

While arrests of migrants crossing into the United States have hit record highs, the Biden administration on Friday made a renewed attempt to end a Trump-era immigration program that forced asylum seekers to wait in Mexico for U.S. court hearings, according to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo previewed by officials.

    Country headed in wrong direction

Chuck Todd, the moderator of Meet the Press, shared the findings of the latest NBC News national polling on Sunday that bode ill for President Joe Biden and his party one year out from the midterm elections.

Biden’s only hope for redemption is the passing of the new ‘framework’ Build Back Better bill which has been watered down by half to $1.75 trillion and is receiving blowback from ‘progressive’ members of his party.

Trump lied, Biden lies, all politicians lie – err, misspeak.

The Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana said it best Lee, "You just have to try harder not to suck.." IMO, is the best description of our Resident Joe Biden's performance as supposed leader of our country. I'll leave it right there...

The bull in a China shop

    Asleep at the wheel!

Faced with blowback from Afghanistan, inflation, a border crisis, a failing economy, mandate disruptions, supply chain issues, a threatening China, Covid failure, war on parents, CRT lies, Biden shrugs and says he didn’t campaign to be popular.

America is scared now and even more so for the future.

Biden faces doubts about his ability to lead Democrats to victory as voter pessimism sets in

“Americans are dejected about the way things are going in the country,” Lake writes in her report.

Two-thirds of voters expect the next generation to be worse off, with both short- and long-term economic anxiety, a feeling most pronounced among the younger population.

Generation X, ages 41-56, wonder if they will ever achieve stability, Lake said. Millennials, aged between 25-40, and Generation Z, aged 24 and under, wonder what kind of future they will have.
