    NF hospital designated stroke center

Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital has received approval from the state as a designated stroke center.

The approval is most significant for patients suffering strokes in the Niagara County area, who now will be transported to the Niagara Falls hospital instead of stroke-center sites in Buffalo.

The statewide stroke-center program was designed to improve care to stroke patients through enhanced policies, protocols, rapid evaluation and treatment. Niagara Falls Memorial is the only hospital in Niagara, Orleans or Genesee county to be granted state stroke-center designation.

Though Niagara Falls Memorial has been operating under the guidelines required since it received conditional approval in December 2008, the state approval now gives emergency-response providers and ambulance companies the authority to transport patients to a closer site.

“Under state guidelines, emergency providers transporting a patient exhibiting signs of stroke must bring them to the closest stroke center,” says Patrick Bradley, hospital spokesman.

In keeping on topic,,, hospitals are developing specialties to attract patients.

This is obvious by the increasing advertising that has been of late.
