    Old Bubble Light Christmas Tree

    Old Bubble Light Christmas Tree

This tree is way old. Anyone here remember these?

    Bubble light christmas tree

You let the bulbs warm up and they Bubble in the tube.

Well the top group stopped lighting up.

What I found was that the bottom of the bulbs flattened out over time and don't connect properly in the socket.

    Bubble light end

Either I have to find some bulbs or try to repair what I have.

Think a dab of solder on the end would work?

It may work. It won't hurt it if you do.

I remember them but I wasn't little! I can almost remember that they were a fire hazard weren't they? It almost seems like if there was something you didn't do when you had them, it would cause a fire, but then maybe I'm just talking too! I just checked Google. Here's a few thoughts!

They were a fire hazard only if certain things all came together: and artificial tree made of metal needles made contact inside the socket. A real tree that had dried out and the light POSSIBLY overheated causing a fire. I have been looking for a link that talks about this, but I can't find it. It was one of those myth buster type things.

The bulbs are filled with alcohol and can cause a fire if they break.

I believe that this is why they also caused a few hangovers the next morning!

nope. The chemicals in the very old lights were also used in like paint stripers and stuff. You can't drink it.
