I think all the months of anna's pregancy were leading to an extended vacation in the Bahamas while Anna got back into shape. Drugs were always a part of her life from a teenager. Poor Daniel didn't know his limits; too young to be jaded...too young to be left unsupervised in the Bahamas.

I do feel sorry for her. It's a hell of a loss.
