As part of their admitted National agenda:

Democrats Pressure Connecticut Stores to Ban Guns

Federal representatives from Connecticut sent a letter this week to Wayne Pesce, the president of the Connecticut Food Association, asking him to ban open carry in his nearly 500 retail grocery stores and pharmacies across the state. Senator Richard Blumenthal, Sen. Chris Murphy, and Rep. Elizabeth Esty joined forces to pressure the CFA.

“We write today to urge you to adopt a policy that would prohibit the open carry of firearms in your member stores,” reads the letter. “In doing so, you would be sending an important message about your commitment to the safety of your employees and customers.”

According to the gun-grabbing trio, the idea that anyone would need to arm themselves in a retail establishment is laughable. “There is simply no reason someone would need to bring their gun with them in order to purchase milk, bread, or other necessities at a grocery store. Customers should feel safe while shopping, and employees should not be fearful while doing their jobs,” they wrote.

Pesce released a statement shortly after receiving the plea, insisting that the CFA would place “the health and safety of its members, their employees and customers” at the forefront of consideration. He promised to consider the request made by the Democrats, but stopped well short of agreeing to the ban. Whether additional pressure will be enough to convince Pesce to follow the example of other retailers like Starbucks remains to be seen.

But let’s go back to the letter for a moment. There is simply no reason…What gives these elected representatives the right to make that determination on behalf of their constituents? Obviously, the fact that open-carry laws exist in Connecticut is an indication that the citizens feel differently. Using the terminology they use makes it seem silly that people would need to take their guns into a grocery store, but you could say the same thing about churches, schools, and political rallies. Yet as we’ve seen, killers can show up anywhere, anytime. People should have the right to protect themselves when they do.

It is true that customers and employees should “feel safe,” but capitulating to the gun-grabbers actually makes them even less so. Would you rather know that one or two lawful shoppers are armed in case something bad goes down? Or would you rather be in a situation where the only people who might bring a gun into your store are those who have malicious intentions?

Thus far, Democrats have been largely unsuccessful in their attempts to disarm America through the law. But if they can accomplish those same goals through political pressure, the outcome is the same. We must protect not only our right to bear arms but our right to exercise that right.
