Donald Trump on Monday called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” in response to the recent attack in San Bernardino, California, which investigators believe was inspired by the terrorist group known as Islamic State. When Trump says “total and complete,” he means it: Trump’s campaign manager told the Associated Press that the ban would include Muslim tourists, and a spokesman told The Hill that it would even cover American citizens living abroad.

Some of Trump’s rivals for the Republican presidential nomination came out against his proposal (with varying degrees of intensity). Jeb Bush called Trump “unhinged” on Twitter, while Ted Cruz, campaigning in South Carolina, said he didn’t share Trump’s position but called for a three-year moratorium on accepting refugees from countries where Islamic State or Al Qaeda control territory.

It’s too soon to know how Trump’s proposal will affect the campaign; plenty of his past comments were ridiculed by pundits but failed to hurt his standing in the polls. But there are a few things that we do know about Americans’ views of Muslims, and Muslims’ view of their place in America.

Even if he doesnt...he brings a lot of fresh air regarding issues that our present and wannabe elected officials wont say.for fear of NOT being politically correct...wanting not to destroy their protected high paying salaries and careers!...and this is what will be the further destruction of the American way of life...as we once knew it. Past interfering in other countries / govt.'s by our past bumbling presidents and politicians has cost us thousands of American lives. i.e. VietNam, Afghanistan
When ANY nation or religion threatens or declares war on the US...we must strike back firmly..it will deter any one else who might think of attacking us. Opening our borders..or keeping them open until we ...this country has a solid paln on how to screen potential new citizens...and eliminate the threats they bring..is only asking for for more carnage in our country!

No, he didn't mean it. As soon as someone tugged on his sleeve and told him the Constitution would not allow him to prevent US Citizens from returning to the US solely because of their religious believes, he backed down on that one.

We should be excluding everyone we can legally exclude if their idiotology is incompatible with our founding principles. For example, any non-citizen of the US who doesn't believe in the separation of Church and State - whether muslim, christian, or other insanity - should not be allowed into our country. Unfortunately, we can't export such crazy people who are already citizens.
