I'm not a huge Jeb bush fan but he is spot on in this opinion piece about real presidents actually lead unlike our current one that is a bitter partisan to the end:

It's almost like a cult with these Obama apostles. He can never do anything wrong even when it's provable like with isis embedding inside the refugees. I miss the days of the past when democrats could actually disagree with a sitting democratic president when then good of the nation was at stake and we did what was best for america, not the party line.

Let me articulate this for you:
"I'm not locked in here with them. They're locked in here with me!!"

You know what they didn't have in 1984? They didn't have the internet. Computers and software were only for the biggest of the biggest companies.
Technology should have reduced this number greatly. But you don't know or care about that. You like it when a stiff can get a job and a pension instead of a computer doing it better, cheaper and faster.

We should also compare cost per employee from 1984 to 2010.
You can say you were buying 50 apples in 1984 but in 2010 you are only buying 30 apples. Look at use we are buying less apples. What might be the case is the cost per apple in 2010 compared to 1984. If you compare equal dollar amounts the 50 apples may cost less than the 30 apples you are buying is 2010.

Perhaps. My perspective is my own agency. Border inspections are a very human function. Technology tries but generally fails. Or perhaps better stated, contain clear security issues which are accepted as part of a risk management paradigm.
Look at the IRS. I don't believe my return is viewed by human eyes at all. And the result is a check in my bank account in 5-7 business days instead of 6-8 weeks.
That said, my retirement was processed manually in some bunker in PA, despite the necessary records being fully computerized. By both my agency then OPM.
b.b.
You know full well that new technology that reduces one occupation ends up building up another. With all that time-saving software, now they have to hire people for monitoring email, securing servers, coding websites, processing data, upgrading systems, keeping ahead of hackers, etc., etc, etc... Just the security aspect alone has skyrocketed with all the cyber-attacks coming from Russia and China. It's a lot of work and much of it requires solid salaries to keep it.
I have to agree with BB - there's certain tasks computers will never be able to do.
His job is a excellent example - there's visual cues - signs and signals only the human eye tide to a brain can perceive. Subtle hints in a persons voice - eye movement - body language and so on.
In the auto industry automation has crushed way more jobs than they will ever create by way of support staff.
Besides, where law enforcement is concerned - without them the doughnut industry would die !
#Dems play musical chairs + patronage and nepotism = entitlement !
While building up technology does create some new jobs as it replaces others...it does not mean adding so many jobs that overall employment should go up. That's my point.
A team of 10 people can and should be writing software to replace 100 to 1000 people doing menial tasks. That's efficiency. I would have no problem if the Federal government focus on hiring the best of the best or highly skilled labor. That would be good overall for everyone. The problem is that many view the Federal government as a tool to create any kind of employment. The reason I have issue with that is the commitment that given once someone is hired into a government job.

Machines could replace as much as 30% of our workforce by 2025. Productivity through efficiency is NEVER a bad thing. Increased wealth by increasing stock values based on cheap money acquisitions and stock buybacks are not a good thing.
You can thank Eli Whitney's cotton gin for starting that party. Efficiency makes things cheaper and more widely available.
As what Lefty said, too many people view government as a source of employment. The purpose of government is not to employ people.
How can you say the National Debt has gone down under Obama?

BB Under Obama, our inept leader our debt is gone up.
Russia didn't make me vote for Trump, Hillary did.
Where did the additional debt get spent on once President Obama was elected?
Looks like it was about $10,000,000,000,000 when he took office and now it's $18,150,604,277,750.63
8 Trillion more.
8,000,000,000,000 / 50 states = $160,000,000,000 per state.
