Last year i had to take out a LOC with my local bank to pay off some crap.... Anyways, a stipulation was i had to get my availble credit down. At the time I had over $80,000 in available credit.
So, my bank drew up cancellation letters for a couple of my cards and joint cards I had with my now deceased father and sent them out...
Well 6 months later, citi sends me a new card. call em up, told them to cancel the card. They said it was then cancelled.
This morning I check my mail and I get a letter about the fee is increasing for credit protection on this one card that I thought was cancelled.
So here we go again, attempting to cancel the card...

Also, you can check your credit report once yearly for free:

They'll let you know what's open/closed/etc and a number to contact if you want to close it.
I don't really understand how they can refuse to cancel your credit card?

Is the credit protection service actually through your card issuer, or is it a 3rd party who may not have updated their records?
The way this works is, they tell you they closed it, but in reality left it open.
I posted this while I was on hold this am... It turns out they actually DID cancel my orignal account but because they thought I was a sucker they just reissued me a new card with the same limits and apr... hopefully there wont be a round 4.

are you sure its really not canceled? You might still just be in another database that sends out form letters
