I love to hear old time remedies that families have had for centuries. In our family, we had the honey and lemon for scratchy throats.
One of the remedies that is great for joint pain:
-8 yellow raisins
-2 drops of rum
~~~~let it soak it in over night
~~~~~~~~~eat it daily. Helps joint pain
Another remedy that is good for restless leg syndrome:
- a bar of Ivory soap, unwrap
-put under sheet at bottom of bed
~~~~~~~~~helps with the restlessness and I heard with cramping too.
Anyone else have remedies for colds and flu and such?
for migraine headaches?
Has anyone ever tried using Vick's vaporub on your feet to prevent overnight coughing?
Have you kids play out side. Little cuts and scraps etc I think helps build up their immune system. I could be wrong.
Yes, the germs are sparser outside in the cool air than they are indoors where it is warm. Nothing like cold fresh air in the lungs. Love it.Originally posted by WNYResident:
or vick's on the feet. But I will try that. I also use vick's at the back of my ears if I feel an earache is about to erupt. But then I heard to make sure vick's does NOT go into the airwaves inside the ear. Can cause some damage.
But vick's on the throat, always works for me.
Murray, what venting issue are you thinking about in your VENTIHG thread?
I agree..
Also it helps prevent nature deficiency disorder, (yes it exists). Also the vitamin d from the son helps kids fight illness.
I have quite a few remedies for hyper children, lmao!
If a kid is old enough (like older than 10), nothing like having them chop wood.
Outdoors is sooo important for kids. It's hard in the cold weather, but even just 10 minutes is better than nothing.
It's not exactly an old remedy but ginger ale and Gatorade are awesome for the flu.
Sitting on an exercise ball and bouncing is good for depression and anxiety.
I always watch the Dr. Oz show and the other day he called a woman from the audience that had "smelly feet". He smelled them and really looked like they were pretty rank. Anyway, he had her soak her feet in a tub of black tea. I think he said you have to do it for so long, so many days but it def works.
Here's his website. Have fun.
