Here's a link to a 1998 cold case murder that has been solved: http://www.buffalonews.com/home/story/855948.html

That brings to mind another murder back in the 1980s ... Michelle Kasperek of St Florian Street. Her body was found behind the old Cardinal Dougherty school by somebody walking his dog. Her head had been severed. I don't believe that this case was ever solved.

This happened in my neighborhood, and Michelle had been a student of mine in 5th or 6th grade. I believe her parents had divorced, and scuttlebutt was that the Kasperek kids were largely unsupervised. There were also allegations that she ran with a rough crowd that was into drug use. There were hints that some of the young people who may have been involved were from respectable middle class families with political connections.

I would hope that this case gets solved in my life-time.
