I see that Quiznos pulled the plug in the Tops Plaza.While I didn't go there often as I thought the product to be expensive, I certainly liked the atmosphere. The Island is a tough place to make a buck for the small enterprise, me thinks.......

It is a challenging business climate. Strange that a community with one of the highest household incomes in WNY is also one of the cheapest. The entire island is littered with vaccant stores and there really aren't any good places to eat.
I think it's because the housing costs so much, no one has anything left over to play with.
Whatever happened to Jalapeno Loco? I drove by a few weeks ago and there was a sign on the door that said "re-opening soon". Anybody know if they re-opened?
I do like that Asian Buffet beside Burger King. They have a daily sale: $2 per pound after 9pm. It's worth it for me to drive over the bridge and load-up on lunch for the week. Even a good sale at Tops can't compete with $2 lunches every day.
I heard bullitt4248 and Northshore are blaming the amended Fire Company Service Award for the stagnated economic conditions on Grand Island.
I think that makes at least 8 or 9 Quiznos' that have closed already. I feel bad for the poor folks that invested in these.
It's weird how Subway is so successfull here and Quiznos is failing. In other cities it's the other way around, Subways are struggling and Quiznos is kicking azz.
Personally I think Quiznos makes better subs than Subway... but they're a bit too pricey to eat often.
Maybe we have more non-chain sub shops than other Metros do? Seems like every bagel, sandwich, and pizza place sells subs here.
I love Wegman's subs. They are huge, you get tons of stuff on them, and they are not expensive. The only time I go to a place like Subway is if I want some sort of "odd" type of sub that Wegman's does not make. A Quiznos opened on Union and George Urban in the plaza by Tops. I never think to go there to try them.

Very strange that Quizno's couldn't make it on Grand Island. I personally like their subs, which use good quality meats & cheeses. Subway makes "wish" sandwiches, in other words, two pieces of bread and wish you had some meat. Just cross over the bridge and go to Viola's behind the city market in Niagara Falls. One of the best subs around.

Many years ago (90s?) I read a business article that had results from a marketing study done by a big pizza chain (not Hut or Dominos) looking into coming to WNY. The bottom line? People here do not eat nearly as much pizza per capita as the rest of the country.
How can that be?! You ask.
They based their study on the population size vs. area sales by above mentioned two mega chains, and figured out we don't much like pizza.
Ignoring names such as Bocce, LaNova, LaHacienda, DiPaulos, Junction (add your favorite here).
We know food here. We are mostly not fooled by the focus-group based lowest common denominator swill that other areas consider haute cuisine.
Give me Sahlens over Oscar Meyer any day. And if you're going to KFC, stop by and pick up a Chiavetta's for me. Don't forget the Bison French Onion dip - you can throw the Helluva Good in the garbage where it belongs.
The Quiznos in North Buffalo didn't last very long. Now there is a Jim's Steakout in its place. From my observations of that particular Quiznos, not only was the product over-priced, but the management didn't seem to have a handle on the employees. The service was terrible. That is enough to do any business in. I would be willing to bet that Quizno's franchisee program did not sufficiently train the people who invested. They probably enticed people with lofty sales & profit figures without providing adequate support. Of course, the franchisees have to share some blame for not thoroughly investigating before investing.

You know, I liked Qyuizno's. Only was there a couple of times, with coupon in hand, but I thought it was a very tasty sandwich, edging towards the gourmet, and filling.
