Thumbs up The Great BANANA Blackout

I'm re-posting our press release here becasue I know that several of you would be interested in joining the rally. We'll provide the signs, you provide the voices!

    What: Great BANANA Blackout
Where: 1119 Elmwood Ave Buffalo, NY 14222
    When: 5:30PM
Who: The online communities of WNYMedia.net and Buffalo Rising

Buffalo, NY - In an effort to support transparent development processes and a better Buffalo, the members of WNYMedia.net and BuffaloRising.com have joined forces to rally the community around the construction of the Wyndham Hotel at the corner of Elmwood and Forest Avenues.

In the last several years, progressive business and residential development in the City of Buffalo has been hindered by the emergence of groups that have been dubbed as NIMBYs (Not In My Back Yard) and BANANAs (Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anything).

Marc Odien, owner of WNYMedia.net and rally organizer said, "It's time for sensible Buffalonians to support companies who are willing to invest in our community and demonstrate that the voice of New Buffalo isn't anti-progress."

These groups have utilized methods ranging from street protests to civil litigation to further their selfish interests. Our intention is to rally support behind Savarino Construction and Wyndham Hotels which have decided to invest in our city while engaging in a transparent and community oriented design and development process. These companies solicited input from the community on the design of the hotel and modified the original plans after receiving feedback. Savarino also submitted his plans to the City Planning Board and the Buffalo Common Council and received approval for construction.

Be a part of New Buffalo and be a part of progress.

EDIT: I have been informed that the NIMBY/BANANA contingent will be out in force to shout us down tomorrow. Let's demonstrate that WE are New Buffalo and not a bunch of anti-progress NIMBYs. We shall represent the warm, gooey center of progressive thought in this city while the NIMBYs will represent the lunatic fringe. Let's not be outnumbered!

If nothing else, it's an opportunity to have a couple of beers on a Monday Night. :-)

    Be there or be square!

People who wonder if the glass is half empty or full miss the point. The glass is refillable.

You're about as gooey as it gets.

First beer is on me for those SpeakUpWNY members in attendance. (Hopefully I end up buying 50 beers)

    Chris ..

Just top be sure, do you guys have signs or do we have to make our own when we arrive. If the local news shows up, I'd like to know there's a big sign for me to hide behind

    Thumbs up

SpeakUpWNY contributes to yet another Buffalo cause! Many thanks to Steven and Ragin' for their support. Too bad I missed you guys at Goodbar, I now owe you both TWO beers at the next event.

We had coverage from Channels 2, 4, and 7 as well as WBEN, WBFO, WNED. We even did a few live radio interviews to spread the message of positive development in the city.

    Thanks again!
