So what is the solution to 1000 injuries per day?
A good start would be for people to stop treating their dogs like "one of the family" and instead treat them like the animals that they are.

That doesn't mean they can't give their dogs filet mignon if they want to, or let their dogs sleep in your bed or whatever.

But like a subcompact firearm you might keep in your pocket, you have to always understand that your animal is an animal that can turn dangerous unexpectedly if you don't have control of it.

Oh shove it... Some dogs should not be pets but otherwise they are part of the group..

    This is Gussie....

She was a rescue from an Omish Puppy mill...

That is Goober... That dog was in the same cage as Gussie... I don't know what they went through before we got them but they were buds...

But they are still wild animals

I don't even know where to start.

There is a national geographic on the dog and it's relationship to humans. I think you would find it interesting. It was opinion of several researchers that civilization would not have been possible without them. They are more in tune with human emotion than any other animal.

Humans by a long shot are more destructive to each other than any dog or animal for that matter.

I would also be willing to bet that Humans harm more dogs either intentionally or unintentionally than dogs harm people.

Your thinking is out of the mainstream, most people polled in the US and many European countries think of their pets as family.

    Your sentiments are not current.

Sentiments are not rationale. Knowledge is.

These are the faces of self-imposed ignorance:

    5-year-old mauled on April 20, 2010:

    6-year old mauled on April 7, 2010:

And a woman loses an arm to an attack by two unleashed dogs. The owner of dogs was fined a whopping $1,000, because, after all, we wouldn't shoot a member of the family that bit off someone's arm would we?

There are 6 billion people on earth along with billions of animals. There will always be injuries and attacks by animals.

And of all people I believe you stated you use a shock collar on your dog, no leash. Very irresponsible if you are not in a fenced in area. That battery could fail and your dog can decided to eat someone.

    nogods,

You completely ignored or otherwise did not acknowledge any point I made.

    .

I am unsure as to wether or not you are demonizing dogs, careless owners, improper or lack of training, poor breeding or some other variable.

It would be helpful to know what percentage of injury was caused by "trusted" pets as opposed to wild roaming savage dogs. vs poor breeding vs. poor training etc.

Again no argument from anybody that your graphic pictures are tragic, and perhaps avoidable, so are matches, falls, and other injuries.

Somehow that wont dissuade the over 50 million dog owners to keep their pets in a kennel behind the barn. I wont and have been bitten pretty good a couple of times.

I do not like dogs. They are dogs! You dog....

I will care more about a said concern for humans when said concern is also against the legal murder of the same to the tune of many millions a year.
