Elected official may refuse to perform official duties based on superstitions.

So, what if a county clerk believes that issuing a marriage license on a Friday the 13th would wrong because it would cause the marriage to be unlucky and end in divorce? Can he or she refuse to issue marriage licenses on any Friday the 13th?

What if a county clerk's religious beliefs hold that marriage is only for people who can procreate. Can the clerk refuse to issue a marriage license to any couple that might be sterile?

In Texas they think they can. Correct that, in Texas the believe the can, because they obviously are not thinking.

County clerks may refuse — on religious grounds — to issue same-sex marriage licenses

I wonder if the Texas AG thinks clerks can refuse to issue shellfish harvesting licenses, and tattoo parlor licenses. Can a muslim clerk refuse to issue liquor licenses?

I'll bet a lot of people in Texas think the supreme court ruled that they have to marry a homosexual.
