Facing a near 50 percent cut in homeland security funding, the Buffalo-Niagara region will get the state's share of federal money allocated to offset potential terrorist acts, Gov. George Pataki said Tuesday.
The outgoing governor has directed the entire 20 percent share of Urban Area Security Initiative -- UASI -- funding designated for New York state be passed on to Erie and Niagara counties. The allocation, pegged at just under $750,000, will help first responders and communities better prepare, respond, and recover from potential acts of terrorism.
