    Thumbs up Suozzi/Spitzer Debate

On July 25th, Tom Suozzi and Eliot Spitzer are scheduled to face one another in their only Gubernatorial debate. It's an absolute travesty that we are afforded only one opportunity to see the candidates answer questions off the cuff. Instead, we're forced to divine their positions from press releases and slick commercials.

Yesterday morning, The Empire Zone Blog asked what questions you would submit for the upcoming Suozzi/Spitzer debate. As expected, the submissions are mostly focused on downstate issues and politics.

So, I ask you, what questions would you submit to the debate? What upstate issues would you like specific answers to as you make an educated decision on which candidate deserves your vote?

My questions are fairly simple and would be construed as "leading" in a court of law:

  2. Have you read the Unshackle Upstate position paper? Do you support any of the specific recommendations? If so, which?

  3. Name three issues that you feel have directly contributed to the distressed economic condition of Upstate New York and tell us what what you intend to do to address them.

  4. Do you believe that New York State tax levies inhibit organic business development?

  5. Do you believe that a more sensible way to attract business to New York State would be to reduce the overall tax burden rather than issuing specific incentive packages?

  6. Do you support repealing the Triborough Amendment of the Taylor Law?

  7. Do you support a repeal or restructuring of the Wicks Law?

  8. Do you support a restructuring of the various New York State Authorities so all budgets are available to the public and each authority reports directly to the legislature?

  9. Did I miss anything? What other questions might you submit?

How about-- Do you intend to enforce the collection of gas and cigarette taxes on the Indian Reservations?

I just heard Sandy Beach say that Thomas Suozzi will be on his show today at 4pm. May be worth a listen.
If it weren't for the United States Military, there would be NO United States of America !

What action do you intend to take regarding the illegal Turning Stone Casino?
