East Aurora ice rink is 1 of 10 finalists in $150,000 national competition

The Healthy Zone Rink in East Aurora is one of 10 finalist ice rinks around the country in the Kraft Hockeyville competition, putting it in line to possibly win $150,000 and the opportunity to host a preseason Buffalo Sabres game.The rink is now part of a larger national vote to be held Tuesday through Thursday to select one rink from the 10. Results of that contest will not be announced until sometime in May.
Those wanting to vote for the East Aurora rink, which is the former Winter Classic Rink that is operated by the nonprofit Aurora Ice Association, can go to www.krafthockeyville.com or call (855) 255-5975.
The East Aurora rink, located on Riley Street just off Main Street, will host a community day from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday to drum up support. If the rink wins the national competition, it plans to use the money build a permanent lodge that would house locker rooms, skate rentals and a banquet area.
