Aquino’s town board seat replacement process questioned

At Monday evening’s Lancaster town board meeting resident Mike Fronczak inquired as to whether a decision has been made as to how to fill former Councilman Mark Aquino’s town board position as he had recently tendered his resignation.

Supervisor Dino Fudoli replied that position will be filled by a board decision. He added that since that seat is up for election in November it his opinion that he would like it left open until that time. But it is the board’s decision to make. Fudoli declared that he personally would not support that position; appointing an individual during the interim. He stated it would not be fair to the taxpayers but he is but one vote and could not stop a process to fill the vacated seat.

Fronczak agreed with Fudoli’s position and added that if and when this type of situation should occur in the future, as it is not appointed position, it should become an across the board approval process; “that one ‘no’ vote kills it.” After Fronczak added that it should not be based on majority vote alone, Fudoli interjected that the majority vote process was common law.

When Fronczak polled the Democratic council members on how they felt about filling the seat, Council member John Abraham replied that he was not ready to make a decision. “There are plenty of options. There is the option to leave it vacant and the option to fill it with someone qualified. Those are the options we are faced with; so why should I guess.

Council member Ronald Ruffino declared, “It works for me, what John said.”

Council member Donna Stempniak replied that she thought of suggesting Russell Sugg for the vacated board position but that then he would have to give up his Village of Lancaster Trustee position.

Just think of the past with the Dems. Put someone in the seat and as soon as possible to nail DINO at every chance they can, and then they are a INCUMBENT ! They have done it in the pass.

So you want them to leave the seat vacant to further the political position of DINO and anyone who might run against an incumbent, but you object to the majority doing what they are authorized by the voters to do? Sounds like another affirmative action program for those who can't otherwise win an election.

I am sure they will fill the seat with someone from the "friends and family" arena.

On another note, I have just been informed that the GOP has a VERY serious contender for The Clerk's position. Has anyone heard if Johanna will be running again? This news could be a challenge for her since she is used to running un-opposed. I very much doubt she will secure the Conservative Line.

Does anyone seriously believe the DEMS will not fill Aquino's vacant council seat ASAP and run that individual as an experienced incumbent in the upcoming November election?

It would be politically stupid of them not to. And that they are not as they have played this game repeatedly in the past 12 years.

Didn't the voters elect them to fill a seat that is vacated in addition to their other duties? And if they do the job for which they were elected, wouldn't that appointed person in fact have 5 to 6 months of experience?

There is no solution that does not politically benefit someone. Should they not carry out their duties to avoid politically helping one of their allies and instead thereby help an opposition candidate?

Yup, yup, and yup! I would have preferred the four council members would have given that explanation instead of the inane responses they stated.

Not only have the controlling Town Board Dems remained silent on the Councilmember Aquino replacement question -

They are struggling to keep Council Member/ School Teacher Abraham out of the "Red Skins Debate"-

Not to mention side stepping the media on the County Tax Man / Black Suit Hit and run Mr.Majiewski !

Stories and rumors are flying - Town Clerk may run for Supervisor - Councilman Ruffino considering a bail out (if only his day job was more secure) that could totaly crush the Dems decades of domination in Town Hall.

But it turns out theres more Committee Members working to keep him then his - on again off again allie Councilman Stempniak !

Rumors of Councilman Stempniaks going to the County was mostly a ego driven dream - it truns out no body there was waiting with open arms. Then we hear she might not run for reelection ! ? ! She's pulled this stunt in the past to test her aility to rally support - this time she may have been disapointed !

While Highway Boss/Superintendant D. Amatura's stock is steadily rising - his in name only Dem Committee Councilmembers are takeing hits left and right.

Theyve done well staying at arms length - appearance wise - while most insiders know - individuals within the Dem Camp have been quietly backing/supporting and coaching School Board hopeful Mrs. Christopher.

This fall elections should be one hell of a struggle for the usual Dem patronage supported Players -
#Dems play musical chairs + patronage and nepotism = entitlement !

    Mark Aquino conviction update.....
He got off easy in my opinion.

    http://wivb.com/2015/06/05/former-la...i-accusations/

ALDEN, N.Y. (WIVB) — A quiet non-jury trial decided the fate of a former Lancaster Town Board member Mark Aquino on Tuesday.

Aquino, who resigned following accusations that he drove drunk and got into an accident in March on Como Park Boulevard, was convicted of a reduced charge of driving while ability impaired by Alden Justice Larry LaDuca.

He was also convicted of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, but both crimes are violations. In court, Aquino had to pay a total of nearly $1,000 in fines and charges.

Aquino’s license was suspended as part of his conviction for 90 days. That suspension will take effect after a 20-day buffer period which will allow him to apply for a conditional drivers license.

LaDuca was also mandated to perform 100 hours of community service at Our Lady of Pompey Church in Depew.
