Six Flags may sell Darien Lake theme park

Future of Six Flags Darien Lake in Question
    Last Update: 6/23/2006 1:02:06 PM

The future of popular summer spot Six Flags Darien Lake is uncertain. Six Flags says it may have to sell or even close Darien Lake, along with 5 other amusement parks. Six Flags owns a total of 30 properties in North America.

The company says it is facing financial trouble, because of a drop in park attendance and a rise in operating costs.

Six Flags may also make changes at Six Flags Waterworld in California, Six Flags Elitch Gardens in Colorado, Wild Waves and Enchanted Village in Seattle, Six Flags Splashtown in Texas and Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor near Los Angeles, California.

The company may choose to sell Darien Lakes and the other parks as they are, or they may take down the amusement parks and sell the properties at their real estate value.
    Ruh-roh.

that sucks, although I would agree that Elitch Gardens in Colorado is sorta disappointing once you've become accustomed to Six Flag's larger parks. I thought Darian Lake held up pretty nicely next to Six Flag's Great Adventure in NJ.

I kinda took a liking to that old bald guy dancing in the commercials. Even the theme music he dances to is playing in my head now.

Kind of hard to operate a family amusement park when 30% of young people move out of WNY between 1990-2005......

Havent been to Darien Lake in years. Not since it became Six Flags. Fantasy Island is more likable.
