Last summer, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority instituted a fixed-fare pilot program for a number bus and rail services.

Now, the authority wants to hear from the public before deciding if the program should shift from a temporary one to a permanent basis. The program offers discounted, mulitple-ride rates for the NFTA's Paratransit Access Line, day and weekend passes and 30-day passes for both its bus and Metro Rail lines.

The program offers such discounted, multiple ride rates as $34 or $68 for paratransit riders, depending on the number of rides and transit zones they purchase. Single zone cards can also be had for $25 and $50 respectively.

"Metro Day Passes" can be had for $3.50 while weekend passes are being sold for $6 and 30-day passes go for $55 for single zones and $66 for multiple zones.

Metro Day Pass sales have gone from 438 in January to 5,501 in May while weekend passes have jumped from just three in January to 185 in May.
