    Medina referendum

So the people of Medina spoke and a majority want to keep their village. Would someone kindly wad up the 1300 ballots cast and stick them up the *** of Kevin Gaughan!

there are about 3200 registered voters. Those who didn't vote have in essence voted for the keeping the village. They could not change the outcome by not voting, They could only have changed the outcome by voting, so when they don't vote, they have in essence voted for the continuation of the village.

Well, some of them may be kids and not eligible to vote. Oh wait you counted registered voters only. Sorry. Some may not give a rip one way or the other. Some probably uninformed. Some forgot or had the damn flu that we all had shots to protect us from.

Yes, and some may have thought that the outcome was certain to be the opposite. But whatever the reason for not voting, the only people who could have changed the outcome are those who didn't vote, so their non-vote in essence was counted for the winner and against the loser whether or not that is what they intended. when it comes to a vote there is a winner and there is a loser, there is no third rail for non-voters to ride - they will experience the exact same outcome as those who do vote.

True. The only difference they'll likely bitch louder about the outcome than the voters.

Not voting doesn't necessarily mean they are in favor of keeping the village. They could be just lazy and/or dumb.

NOT everybody can be a genius like yourself and swallow the Buffalo Snooze's and Kevin Gaughan's bull manure without thinking.
    • The fact of the matter is that Medicaid, which is a state mandated program, and schools, saddled with all kinds of state mandates, are the main drivers of high local taxes; village taxes are a drop in the tax bucket.
    • The fact is that villages that dis-incorporate don't get to dump the debt for their water and/or sewer systems on the entire town when the rest of the town has private wells and septic systems; they get a special levy on their tax bills.
    • The fact is that all villages that dis-incorporate exchange an elected mayor and village council for a "service district" into which residents may or may not have any input.
    • The fact is that all villages that dis-incorporate are at the mercy/whim of the town board when it comes to including extra money in the town budget to provide for maintenance and plowing of village streets.
