I tried but can not find NFTA or Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority on the http://www.seethroughny.org website.

Democrats & Republicans Suck Alike.
How much money do the highway department's make? Zero! They are just blood sucking government organizations that have to be fed and re-fed every year. Just close 'em down. Like the NFTA, all they do is facilitate freeloaders going back and forth to work and shopping. Nothing but a government welfare program for rich people and business.
Maybe I'm missing it but I didn't see statistics for ridership. One does have to wonder if would be cheaper to just buy cars for the people on routes with low to no riders?
What does Lonnie Fuqua operate for 82K per year? There are airline pilots flying into Buyffalo who make less than that.
Judging from what I saw on WGRZ last night an operator is a bus or train driver
there is an article today saying they're finally going to get rid of the honor system with regards to train tickets.
gee, maybe if they had done that when they first built it they wouldn't be going broke
I'm not a heavy user of the train, I've had jury duty a few times that resulted in my using it daily for a week and I've used it a few other times too, but I've only seen tickets being checked twice. When I use it it's from south campus all the way to the above ground section
Vote for freedom, not political parties.
Politicians need to cut spending
Lonnie Fuqua must be quite the operator then. With respect to your comments on highway departments I will agree that the county and city DPW's could be eliminated in a heartbeat and the only ones who would notice would be their employees and the bars where they drink before they get behind the wheels of their plows. In my town we would miss the highway department because they keep the streets open so that people can get to work, kids can get to schools, emergency workers can respond to emergencies...much of this talk is foreign to your average urban dweller, I know...eg work school.
in the early 1980's I used it every day to go to work. It was convenient and clean. Even after I stopped using it to get to work i still used it for Bison's games and other downtown events.
I think they should have priced it to be profitable from the start. They would have had fewer riders but more total revenue. If it had been successful then it would not have been necessary to return cars to main street, which I think is a mistake in the long run. The available parking spaces will never support the number of people you could move in and out with the train.
I rode regularly in the 80's as well. Made for an easy commute & I could read down & back. Now it's a rundown white elephant ridden for the most part by people who aren't real familiar with soap. Or at least that's been my experience in recent years. Look, like everything else around here they built a half ass system that was meant to create jobs for political hacks. Hence a ticket system that was not meant to force compliance but to create jobs for clerks. How much would a ticket be if they charged a rate to cover costs and break even? Does anyone even know? My guess is $12/ ticket & at that rate no one is riding except welfare types who get to use public facilities for nothing anyhow.
