Mayor Erkel Outline City's Immigration Effort.

A poor city and not enough jobs to go around now, and Erk want to bring these people into the area.. maybe they can all work at harbor center..
Brown is expected to highlight Buffalo’s role as a “location of choice” for immigrants and refugees, as well as the New Americans Study the city has launched
Brown, in his 2014 budget plan, also proposed establishing an Office of New Americans to serve the city’s immigrant population.

“Buffalo, like many cities across America, is experiencing an increase in immigration,” Brown said in a written release, “and to continue the economic growth and progress we’re seeing in Buffalo, we would support a smooth transition for the immigrant community in Buffalo and across the county.”

In addition to pushing for federal legislation, the summit also aims to help Obama implement his executive order, which provides protection from deportation and work permits to some five million immigrants who are here illegally. Senior White House officials were expected to join the mayors and other municipal officials today to talk about the executive order and plan its implementation.

The good news is that Buffalo has never and will never be an attractive target for illegals. This is because they are afraid of Border Patrol ( the only agency that deports illegals anymore) and the Border Patrol can patrol within 50 miles of the US border. This means its still open season on these jerks and they can always fear deportation while they're in the city. Good riddance to those freeloaders here sucking up all our healthcare and education money!

Yes, Buffalo would be a much better place if only we hadn't let all those immigrants settle here.

    Nogods,

Mistakes made in the past do not justify possible mistakes made today.

I personally wouldn't invite people to the city who are here illegally that would compete with possible jobs for the area residents. I'm pretty sure the people who have illegally crossed are not all highly skilled people. I'm not saying all the people in our community are highly skilled but there is no reason to add more to that group.

I would also factor in if the people who you are inviting would end up on the welfare/support roles. Some of the support may be paid for at the federal level but doesn't the county end up cover the cost of giving away the welfare programs?

Lastly. Our school taxes are high enough as it is. Do you want to possibly cover the cost of education a couple 1000's of more kids who may not speak English while the parents have no means of support? Just saying.

Yes, Buffalo would be a much better place if only we hadn't let all those immigrants settle here.
Buffalo/Erie County would be better off if we had real leadership that put the community's best interest first versus their own best interest. The Erie County Democratic ( http://www.ecdems.com ) wrote the book on the friends/family plan when it comes to the government payroll. I'm not saying the local republicans are any better either.

And we thought slavery was bad.........

You would think government could employ some esoteric thought as to what they could imagine their governed WOULD want. Clearly with Buffalo being the 3rd poorest city.. taking in any more poor would seem unintelligent.

THINK wah you want...but this country would be not as great...despite obvious social problems if it werent for the EUROPEAN immigrants who came to this country WITH SKILLS. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY A WORK ETHIC...not looking for handouts, but an opportunity to better themselves by hard work and ethics that would make any country great. Slavery will never loose its stigma..both white and black generations will attempt to "celebrate" this method of labor...just as the Jewish population does with HOLOCAUST. Not that this is a bad thing, but many try to capitalize when trying to celebrate or learn of their ethnic heritage..whether it be Polish, German, Italian ETC. tHE American indian was mistreated greatly thruout history when settlers came to this country, but now better living standards, civil rights, much what did not exist over a hundred years ago. This country will continue to make mistakes in treating its' citizens, but it is important that as a civilized nation of people we learn from them and move on..otherwiswe will continue to repeat the social ills that we have become now.

Lets take care of the giant gaping chest wound known as "African Americans" in our city first, and then we can worry about some other anchors wrapped around our necks later.

oh boy ... now this guy.... bishop Malone jumps in.. $$$ make sure the immigrants are taken care of.. what economic progress.!! water front and harbor center gas ir still 3 bucks a gallon taxes will kill you, and people and families are still leaving this area because of no jobs to support a family...

The bishops of Buffalo’s Catholic and Episcopal dioceses have written a joint pastoral letter urging church members to help make sure immigrants, minorities and the poor, among others, share in the region’s economic progress.

While noting new development and revitalization in Buffalo, Bishop Richard J. Malone of the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo and Bishop R. William Franklin of the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York said not everyone is benefitting.

“Blacks and Hispanics still live in poverty in greater proportion than do other groups in our population,” the two bishops wrote in the letter to distributed in churches this weekend. “Children still go to bed hungry. Jobs and security elude too many families.”

Look at cities like LA, Miami,NY, and Detroit.....is that really better than the land and people that were there before?
Do we really want everything covered in concrete because we are breeding out of control on this planet? As far as the industriousness of various civilizations, no doubt there are glaring differences.
The book Guns, Germs and Steel is a must for anybody's library.
