The date has been set for the grand opening of the Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences.

The ribbon will be cut Friday, June 2 on a project that is deemed vital to the city's economic future.

The center, located at Ellicott and Virginia streets, is adjacent to Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the Center for Genetics and Pharmacology. The medical corridor also includes Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute and Buffalo General Hospital.

The University at Buffalo will oversee operations at the 130,000-square-foot, four-story facility, built by New York state at a cost of $52 million. Tens of millions of dollars in additional public and private funding has been allocated for program support.
