The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited four WNY employers for allegedly failing to properly safeguard workers during cleanup and repair operations at the Leisureland bowling center on Camp Road in the Town of Hamburg.

A portion of the roof there collapsed under heavy, wet snow in November, 2005.

Fined a total of $91,000 were Clarence Wall & Ceiling Inc., Contour Erection and Siding Systems of Eden, Cambio Sales Inc. of Hamburg and A-Tehebi Corp. of Hamburg.

OSHA inspectors say the surfacing material on the underside of the collapsed roof section contained asbestos, a known carcinogen. The asbestos was released into the air and throughout the work site, and inspectors say none of the necessary precautions for cleaning up asbestos were taken.

Clarence Wall & Ceiling Inc. was fined $45,000 for 15 alleged violations, while Contour Erection and Siding Systems was fined $42,000 for 14 alleged violations.

All of the firms have 15 days to contest the OSHA findings.
