Giambra isn't going to Albany...
I don't care WHAT he wants to do now; he HAD his chance and HE BLEW IT!
(how many years has he been in public office? all of his adult life!? are we that low on suitable candidates?)

Apr 19, 2006 - Erie County Executive Joel Giambra addressed the death of Sister Karen Klimczak today, saying the problems of drugs must be attacked. He says "we the people are losing the war the criminals are obviously winning the solutions are out there but they are hard to talk about...we have to talk about the whole issue it has to be on the table of legalization of drugs " 7 News Reporter Julie Fine said "Did I hear you right...you think we should put on the table legalizing drugs" and Giambra responded " I think it has to be discussed." Giambra also announced this morning he will not run for Congress in 2006, saying he will instead concentrate on Albany.
Finally, someone making sense. Legaslize all of the drugs, let the losers that have a mindset towards this sickness run themselves to a quick death, and stop the killing of innocent bystanders.

Joel is the perfect candidate. A lifetime politician with zero accomplishments and plenty of scandal to boot.Originally Posted by buffy

(and I wish I was joking!)
Truth to tell, I actually liked Giambra bringing up the issue of legalizing certain drugs. When I saw him on the TV news tonight, he hedged on exactly which drugs he was talking about....said that should be left up to experts....but I agreed with him about the so-called war on drugs. We've already lost.Originally Posted by Northshore

this town was upside down and union screwed well before Giambra became county executive. And Joel inadvertantly started the tax revolt, didnt he?Originally Posted by 300miles
His anti union stance makes him worth the trouble anyway, in my opinion. For now.
Legalize drugs? Ya good idea.....
(Buffalo, NY, April 19, 2006) - - We have new information about the man accused of killing Sister Karen Klimczak. The cell phone Craig Lynch took from the Nun after he killed her was reportedly sold for money to buy a bag of crack that turned out to be fake

...........then people can get killed over real bags of crack
People who wonder if the glass is half empty or full miss the point. The glass is refillable.
Addicts be addicts. Legalizing drugs isn't going to solve the problem because addicts are still going to need money (which they don't have because they can't get jobs) to buy legal drugs -- unless some people are advocating that the government give people drugs on demand?

...how about running against Joel for the State Senate?
Joel Giambra is not the only person to blame for the complete burnout of Erie County. Others were as equal to blame.
Mr. Giambra does have some valid points. Medicaid IS a huge burden on the local economy, regionalism is the best answer to our region's overbloated municipal govenments who ALL provide the same services.
Legalizing drugs, should occur to a degree. Look at the social/criminal problems Prohibition brought about. Yes we still have drunks, Drunk drivers, alcoholism, but I don't see major crime involved anymore.
Tony Montana moved to whiter pastures!
Besides, we have 1,000's in the WNY area already addicted to a legal narcotic named Methadone to kick heroin junkies off the habit, only to keep'em addicted to a cheaper form. We all pay for it through Medicaid.
Marijuana, Cocaine, Heroin, legalize them. In todays society anyways, nobody cares about another. Will it harm my everyday life. Not at all.
If drugs were legal, would it effect you? It's same thing as gay marriage? Does it affect your everyday life knowing two men or two women want to engage in a union? No. Hell, maybe they'd have a better shot then heterosexuals. Ours usally end up in divorce.
So truthfully, he is right. Legalizing drugs would help to a small degree.
It is not the only answer but I'll give him credit, he does speak his mind. He is not afraid of the constiuents firestorm.
The people using the products aren't the (only) problem, it's also who's supplying them, and the cost both monetary and in lives with keeping the status quo.Originally Posted by Linda_D

You think they will kill themselves quickly, but you're just doing wishful thinking. How long does it take an alcoholic to kill himself with booze? A smoker to kill himself with tobaccky? They will be on welfare and Medicaid for life, and everybody else's taxes will go to support them.Originally Posted by Northshore
If the government is going to supply drug addicts with crack and keep, shouldn't supply winos with booze and keep and smokers with ciggies and keep as well???

As sad as it is survival of the non stupid is what makes a species stronger to a point. YOU can't baby sit everyone. Starvation is a motivator. THATs why some people came to the America's in the first place. FOR a better life. I never heard my grandparents tell me "Tony, as we were sitting on our ass on welfare in italy" we decided to come to america. WHY? because you didn't have to amount of safety nets the liberial socialist think we need here.Originally Posted by Northshore
I think welfare, government programs and handouts is what hurt community churches. The pedofile crap really did it but before that got exposed people turned to thier own community and churches for support. NOT the taxpayer. People took care of people. The government didn't take care of people.
