    Tennessee Brings Back Electric Chair

(AP) As the rest of the nation debates the feasibility and humanity of lethal injections against a backdrop of scarce drugs and botched executions, Tennessee has come up with an alternative: the electric chair.

Republican Gov. Bill Haslam signed a bill into law Thursday allowing the state to electrocute death row inmates in the event prisons are unable to obtain the drugs, which have become more and more scarce following a European-led boycott of drug sales for executions.

Tennessee lawmakers overwhelmingly passed the electric chair legislation in April, with the Senate voting 23-3 and the House 68-13 in favor of the bill.

The Supreme Court has never declared a method of execution unconstitutional on the grounds that it is cruel and unusual. It upheld the firing squad in 1879, the electric chair in 1890 and lethal injection in 2008.

People who wonder if the glass is half empty or full miss the point. The glass is refillable.

I wonder what the cost difference is for the electricity used in NYC versus other states.

they'll be fried with TVA power. You've heard of the TVA haven't you? It's one of those federally funded programs that helped get the lights in their outhouses.

Tennessee wants to fry these people before those liberals at the Innocence Project can prove they were wrongfully convicted.

Eighteen people have been proven innocent and exonerated by DNA testing in the United States after serving time on death row. They were convicted in 11 states and served a combined 229 years in prison – including 202 years on death row – for crimes they dididn’t commit.

You are correct its a wonderful mutually beneficial relationship - one we here in Western NY don't have with our Power Authority.

TVA/TVNA - is a truly successful project on many levels - it has created - among other things a multi million dollar a year sport fishing haven. -

“This gives us a good supply of water for drinking and cooling downstream, to get all the way through the summer months.” Public relations officer Kristine Shattuck Cooper added that the robust populations of trout, bass and crappie at all ages indicate that the water is also very healthy."

“This is exactly what we do at TVA; we try to keep the water levels steady while providing flood control and maintain a healthy temperature for the fish,” she said.

"The TVA committed to provide more than $900,000.00 per year from 2014 through 2016 to support federal fish hatchery operations that produce trout for stocking"

There is also a rich archaeological heritage being preserved, "According to TVA archaeologist Ted Wells, more than 11,500 archaeological sites across the Tennessee River Valley are protected under the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA) and managed by TVA""
