    Another Wal Mart lawsuit

I read in the "News" this past weekend that two homeowner associations are going to continue the legal challenge of the store proposed for Sheridan & Bailey Ave. A recent court finding once again decided in favor of the developer and that the next challenge would be difficult to achieve do to the few cases heard in a year (selective) by the higher courts. My question is who is financing these court challenges? The homeowners associations cannot be funding these on their own and I just wonder if a TB member is a party to this with taxpayer money defending his position? Once again we talk of redeveloping our older established retail areas, but we seem to throw various roadblocks in the way that sends a message to the development community not to invest in this town (forget the proposed project on Maple Road).
I wonder if this town had not exhibited such a overzealous decision making process with projects, whether Yahoo may have been built in our town? Fast track projects are a thing of the past, so communities that can exhibit some cooperation in a short window of opportunity, will be the winners.

Manna and his Union are probably the shining knight for the homeowners groups financing. While Manna is not directly on the lawsuit, meeting with the homeowners groups and providing guidance and strategies on the lawsuit still costs the town $$$$.

Manna has said repeatedly that he has fought Walmart all over the state and this is no different. I guess redevelopment is OK if it's union based. Maybe he's the one that should be investigated.

you buy a house in a subdivision that backs up to Transit Road and you do not expect anything to be built there?

Sounds like ignorance to me - buyer beware ......

Walmart is evil and shouldn't be built anywhere. I support the lawsuit because of my feelings towards walmart.

Walmart is evil? Awful simple statement for such a complex issue. What makes them worse than any other big box store? Best Buy evil? Target evil? Koles evil?

No this is the walmart on Sheridan by baily.

WTF is wrong with these people? That plaza has been empty for what 9+ years? It's a MASSIVE eyesore that can be seen from Sheridan.

They should take that and the old DSW down and build what they want!

I'd rather have a super Walmart there and empty building on NF blvd THAT YOU CAN'T SEE then what they have now. Fear not Wegman and Topps, this is amherst, people will still flock to your stores as you actually have people with brains that work there!!

Well honestly, you live in the city, so your support is noted, but doesn't count. Same thing would go if they built something i was against in the city (bass pro) i was against, my opinion doesn't count.

Second, why don't you tell all your union/socialistic brethern parked in the walmart on transit to stop shopping there? Oh that's right they dont' care.

Are you suggesting that the eyesore results from "these people"? Think. Think about the root of why that eyesore is empty. The stores are still around. Why aren't they there?

While both Sheridan and Transit are, indeed, main drags, there are substantive differences in the character of each area that do not lend themeselves to comparable development/redevelopment/use of land.

Because Benderson chased them all out.

I know this for a fact.

Ding, ding. We have a winner.

Exactly, the situation was driven by a landlords presumed unilaterally developed strategy. I suspect that there's some history of "what Benderson wants, Benderson gets" that may have caused them to think that their plan would go through without much beyond minor sqwuak complaints.

    Everything changes sooner or later.

Welp, I cannot agree that anyone other than the owner is keeping it an eyesore. There are boatloads of things that could be done (reasonably inexpensively) to making the property more visually appealing. Of course, you surely recognize the drawbacks of makin' it purty.
