    Poverty Statistics in the City of Buffalo

    This information was found on the US Census Bureau's American Fact Finder site at http://factfinder.census.gov/home/sa....html?_lang=en (See the "Fast Access to Information" by ZIP code feature.)

    POVERTY STATUS IN 1999:

    For the 14202 ZIP code, which includes Allentown:

    Percentage of families below the poverty level: 19%
    For families with children under 18: 43.2%
    Percentage of individuals below the poverty level: 21.1%

    For the 14201 ZIP code, which borders Allentown and includes part of what is considered downtown Buffalo:

    Percentage of families below the poverty level: 14.9%
    For families with children under 18: 55.8%
    Percentage of individuals below the poverty level: 43.5%

    For the 14222 ZIP code, which includes the Elmwood Village:

    Percentage of families below the poverty level: 8.7%
    For families with children under 18: 16.6%
    Percentage of individuals below the poverty level: 18.7%

    For the 14213 ZIP code, which borders 14222 and includes the Lower West Side:

    Percentage of families below the poverty level: 36.6%
    For families with children under 18: 49.9%
    Percentage of individuals below the poverty level: 39.6%

    Yeah, ZIP codes aren't normally that good for defining city neighborhoods... only towns. 14222, from my experience, seems to be confined to the Elmwood Village, though. Parts of Allen are actually 14201.
