Well this year is going to be light on veggie gardening. I think all I'm going to do will be tomatoes for the Gardeners Tomato Success Kit and scrap all the other plants.
This year I'll start up small grape type tomatoes versus the larger type tomatoes.
Last year the Success kit did just fine..
I'll get a few plants started and we'll see how many grape tomatoes we can get out of two plants.
If you would like to review 2006.
post 51 shows you how many tomato production stations you can get.
post 66 shows you how easily a plant can start to get out of hand.
post 108 shows you how many clusters of tomatoes you can get growing.

I topped off each little pot with some extra peat from extra peat pellets.
I'll let everything absorb water tonight before planting the seeds. The heat from the pad will warm the water which wicks up to the seedlings.
Once I have the seeds planted I'll lower the lights which will also warm the seedlings from the top.

Well the 17th was a nice enough day to pick just two healthiest from the group. All the rest will be given away....
This year I'm going to try 1/2 and 1/2 of the fox farm soil. Both are very good soils for plants in containers.
These are the two from the group. Picked because they had the stongest stems and just seemed the healthiest.

So who prefers heritage tomatoes over Hybrid tomatoes?
Meet the Tomato Man
Meet Richard Price—Electrotechnologist, Purveyor of Rare Flowers, Famous For His Heirloom Tomatos
Richard Price could be known for many things. Among other things, he’s a talented singer; an accomplished portrait photographer; a home brewer of beers, ciders, and wines; an experienced electrotechnologist in genetics; a green thumb; a do-it-yourselfer and traditionalist. In fact, it’s mostly by a strange turn of plant evolution that he’s come to be known, informally, as “the tomato man.”

So who else went and got their tomatoes from richards? He took the limit off because he had less people showed up. His sale goes on tomorrow and he lifted the 4 per person limit. Two bucks a tomato plant for what I picked up.
47 Days Park. Buffalo, NY
This year I struck out.. NOT one heirloom tomato on my list. So I asked Richard what is equivalent to what I wanted and he gave me these.
Big Ben which he said is somewhat like a Mortgage Lifer and Druzba. They look a little weak but we are going to fatten them up.
I got this from Richards over 3 years ago and it's still chugging along..Did not look to bad this morning. After talking to Richard about the tree I don't think I'm ever going to have oranges. Oh well.
The Tomato Success kit seedlings have taken very well.
Our first phase it to push them through their vegetative growth cycle. I'll simply follow the instructions with the General Hydroponics 3 part nutrient system.
I'll snip off the shoots that are low to the soil and top the container off in a few weeks.
I'll top off the soil so more of the trunk of the plant roots up.
