    New title for this sub-forum?

The title of this sub-forum should be

    PEOPLE WHO RUN BUFFALO...

    Into the ground.
I'm just here to make people laugh. And to confuse people. Oh, and to irritate people.

Didn't the native Americans used to run Buffalo off a cliff?

    Hey, wait a minute...

No I think you're thinking about Jesus making all those pigs run off a cliff.

Oh yeah. That's where the famous phrase came from: "Give a man some bacon and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to chase pigs over a cliff and he'll eat for life."

Lately it seems that the people who run Buffalo into the round are the anti-development wackos!

Forgive me if it's uncool to say that you are not a preservationsit... But you know what, I don't care if its' not cool.

What I care about is the fact that we live in a city where the highest sector of jobs are for the government because there is little private sector work.

We live in a county where THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF COUNTY REVENUE GOES TO PAYING FOR SOCIAL SERVICES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! What does that tell you? Point blank, OUR ECONOMY IS SO BAD THAT TOO MANY PEOPLE END UP ON SOCIAL SERVICES! HELLO!

We live in a city where the urban housing stock is old and crumbling. Yes, most of it is old and crumbling except for a small percentage of pretty old Victorian properties that people have actually taken care of but the rest is old and crumbling.

We live in an area where people are moving more and more into the suburbs or "exburbs" because the city offers little by way of housing and employment.

We are an econimic joke, a crumbling dying city...

THIS IS THE YEAR 2006 NOT 1906! STOP PINING AWAY FOR THE "GOOD OLD DAYS" FOLKS, BECAUS THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF BUFFALO ARE GONE.

Wake up and smell the coffee. We have to move forward and into the future in our region or we're all gonna end up in the hole.

    ...And that won't be "cool."

The problem is that there are preservationists, and then there are rabid preservationists. There are also a lot of NIMBYists and people with other agendas posing as preservationists. Unfortunately, then the goals and messages of the true preservationists get ignored.

Buffalo is in an economic crisis, but the answer to that is not to tear down everything in sight because "shovel-ready" attracts developers. It's important that someone in a leadership position recognizes the elements of Buffalo that make it unique and differentiate it from other cities. It's important to protect architectural works that truly are special, historic, or worthwhile to save. The Richardson Complex, the Central Terminal, and the various Frank Lloyd Wright structures are among these.

There are several issues that have come up under the guise of preservation that I don't agree with. I don't agree the Atwater house should be protected, because it's not in a protected area, something which the owners of that area still (as far as I know) haven't made any efforts to enact. If Elmwood property owners are truly interested in preserving the feel of Elmwood strip, then they should have learned from the Panos situation and worked to enact some sort of building code guidelines that would protect the area. I don't agree that the HO Oats grain elevators need to be preserved, although I'm generally not pro-indian-casino.

Unfortunately, there are extremists on both sides of the preservation issue, and it doesn't help either side's cause. People need to realize that everyone has the same end goal in mind - to improve Buffalo and help get it back on it's feet.

That's what I said. He made them run off the cliff. His method of operation is another thing.
