Free College Education for prisoners..

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced a new statewide initiative to give incarcerated individuals the opportunity to earn a college degree through funding college classes in prisons across New York. Studies have shown that investing in college education for prisoners dramatically decreased recidivism rates while saving tax dollars on incarceration costs. Those who earn a college degree while in prison are less likely to end up behind bars again, therefore decreasing the number of inmates in New York state prisons.

How about reducing the cost of education for the tax paying saps? I dont even want to say use the money to make it cheaper for people because SUNY robs us enough.

Im surprised our resident democrats haven't chimed in yet. Do they support this? What about Remington moving, what about the tax plan to shift 100 million down state, what about Cuomo raiding education funds and the comp fund to balance his budget? If local dems dont support this stuff, I hope they find another candidate to endorse. If not they look silly with their foot in their mouth.

PLEEZZ...correct me if I'm wrong....but..I thought prisons and their sentencing to exist...were supposed to be a deterrent and punishment for breaking laws against society...now its a freakin' country club, free food, color tv's, gym work out facilities..
all in the name od human rights, but what about the rights of those who were subjected to the crimes that were committed to get these violators there??
No longer the death penalty even when a convicted murderer is sentensed...life incarceration with all the amenities...this society has turned itself upside down, regressing in dealing with criminals...we really should take a page out of some foreign countries' penal book...this would be deterrent to crime!!
