Libraries receive a portion of their funding from county sales tax. this is a fact.
It's also a fact that the 1% NEW YORK STATE SALES TAX increase was not set in place by the government as added funding for the libraries.

The extra 1% was a lie seeing it was supposed to be temporary. But wait, the people we elected don't know what temporary means.

Really we should just stop the 1% and let them scramble. Since when is it our duty to make sure we cover thier promises to the unions and workers? Most good business people wouldn't give away what they did.

Chances should improve if #1. "We" elect people who are willing to drop the penny. #2. Get the State to kick in more for Medicade #3. Downsize the cost of doing County business...ie the library issue....... as well as other issues.....It's doable, have to let your legislator know you want it gone. Next year when he votes to keep it "change your vote"

truth is, the libraries aren't as much a burden on the county as one would beleive... in the words of our friend Curmudgeon "it's a bit like throwing a deck chair off the Titanic to stop the ship from sinking."

So, downgrading viable libraries in the county one way or the other won't hinder the city; just the people who depend on the library services will lose. (Crum... the wee-people)

I am truly beginning to believe the whole library consolidation -while spending millions to build one and shut down two facilities project is just another way for Giambra's buddies to make a big hunk of construction money. While fooling the people of South Buffalo that this is a good thing.

Your right about making up for the loss of the penny in property tax...Where do "we" draw the line? The chances are slim to none it will ever happen in this life time...... One day people will realize that party loyality will not accomplish squat! "We have to find those that are commited to lowering the tax that we bleed!" Let's work on one thing at a time......Lets get rid of the penny!
