According to the official State Department report on terrorism, terrorist attacks have increased - sharply - since September 11, 2001. The report initially showed terror on the decline, giving our Conservative friends proof that the war on terror was working. The only problem was that it turned out the State Department accidentally left out six entire months of the year, and the real numbers showed terror on the rise - big time. Poor Colin Powell had to apologize publicly for the clerical error of leaving out half the year. Maybe we should call him Britney Spears because "oops, he did it again."

Until recently, American "torture" meant reading through some of the amherst threads on this board.

It's a bit more sobering now.

But yes other groups around the word still do things to people that we couldn't even imagine. That doesn't mean it's a road we should start heading down. We're supposed to be the shining light on the hill, and that noble image has been damaged.
