    Political Mailings

Anyone out there know the legality of letters being mailed to registered voters falsely representing a candidate? Such as a letter appearing to be signed by the candidate, mailed through the U.S. Postal System.

East Aurora likely to target anonymous political attacks

It essentially stipulates that any candidate, committee or person distributing mass campaign literature of more than 100 pieces, electronic or printed, must clearly identify themselves by name on the pieces...
Though its enforcement has been questioned — and the village attorney admits the measure could face legal challenges — the proposed campaign fairness ordinance seems to be headed for approval.

Violators could be fined as much as $250 and/or be jailed for as long as 15 days.
My question is how are they going to enforce this. If someone comes to the post office with stamped mailings, gives them to the clerk or drops them in the bin, whose to get his name....the clerk? What is the post office to do, not deliver them?
In politics, anyone willing to run for office is fair game. The gloves are off, and the freedom of speech is given an even wider view.
I think this is a matter for the ACLU.

It's a start - but as you question - how do you enforce it? The crap that goes on in Sardinia sounds very similar to E.A. Oh well the intention is there - just need some clever enforcement measures.
