Local Culturals Band Together to Offer Themed Packages
Joyce Kryszak

BUFFALO, NY (2005-11-04) Nine of the areas largest cultural organizations are collaborating to encourage folks to sample everything local culture has to offer. They're calling it "Culture Craze."

How do you get a family who loves spending all their free time with the eagles at the zoo to go try out a concert at the Philharmonic? Or to maybe take a trip over to the theater? Well, you make it all about flying, of course. The BPO offers "Searching for Superman." At the Science Museum it's Our Place in Space. And how about Peter Pan at Sheas? The nine largest area culturals call the sample platter idea a "Culture Craze." Bil Schroeder from Studio Arena helped develop the concept. He says people love themes.

"We started to look at themes that were running through our seasons," Schroeder said.

And there were plenty of them. The groups gave them clever names too. "Taking Flight," "Brainiac Maniac" and "ArtyFACTS" to name only a few. There are eight differently themed packages -- four geared toward adults and four toward families. Packages, which can be customized, offer discounts of as much as 40 percent of regular admissions. Schroeder says they hope it all adds up to a great incentive.

"We find a lot of people say they used to come to the theater or I used to go to the museum when I was a kid. It's so nice to come back and do it again," Schroeder said.

Ticket packages went on sale Friday -- with the specials good through March. Information is available at the Shea's box office or at the Buffalo Culture Craze web site.
