Maybe we could all claim Native American ancestry and form a sovereign nation?

You really think that the country is going to convene a Constitutional Convention just so upstate New York can take their ball and go home from the playground? That's even more ludicrous.

Back in the 1980's I recall Staten Islands attempt to secede from NYC ..

Throughout the 1980s, a movement to secede from the city steadily grew in popularity, reaching its peak during the mayoral term of David Dinkins. In a 1993 referendum, 65% voted to secede, but implementation was blocked in the State Assembly.
Now if Staten Island couldn't successfully secede from NYC, what makes ya think we'd have a chance in hell?

Now I'm not real good at legalese but this is in the state constitution, Article IX section d:

No local government or any part of the territory thereof shall be
annexed to another until the people, if any, of the territory proposed to
be annexed shall have consented thereto by majority vote on a referendum
and until the governing board of each local government, the area of which
is affected, shall have consented thereto upon the basis of a determination
that the annexation is in the over-all public interest. The consent of the
governing board of a county shall be required only where a boundary of the
county is affected. On or before July first, nineteen hundred sixty-four,
the legislature shall provide, where such consent of a governing board is
not granted, for adjudication and determination, on the law and the facts,
in a proceeding initiated in the supreme court, of the issue of whether the
annexation is in the over-all public interest.

This is fine and dandy but would the federal dollars still flow in for the people who just can't find jobs?

Would be able to immediately cancel and regroup all contracts for the people who work for us?

I was told a lot of dollars come from downstate to help us pay for stuff? So where does that money go? I don't see my pockets getting any of that. The road in front of my house hasn't been touched since I moved there.

I pay school taxes plus state income tax. How much income tax from down state comes here to help with aid?

This is the debate that goes on between upstate and down state. From everything i've been told (many of those are "connected" in Albany) the Downstate area DOES cost upstate money for welfare and all the social programs in NYC (please remember for most NYS social programs you don't need to be a US CITIZEN!!!).

The only major $$$ upstate has that the NYC area doesn't is all the farm subsidies! Out side of that, NYC sucks money from us. Please keep in mind to that WE pay for NYC schools and the LI schools do get more per capita in state funding!

If we cut NYC and LI out, our taxs would drop as would the control of the UNIONS in the new UPSTATE NY

Dumbest post ever! Thanks for the laugh PO!
