******** moved by WNYresident to start off a new topic ***********

Thanks to the residents fighting back, some of the town's bad decisions and the developers irresponsibility have been challenged. A bigger thanks should go out to those who attend the board meetings and speak for those who can't attend or can't speak up for one reason or another. The walmart is a good example. There are a lot of people who do not want a walmart in Lancaster. Their voices have been ignored, except by the brave few who could attend the meeting and could speak up.

It has to be admitted that there are a lot of sarcastic remarks made on speakup. (Including comments made by me) The sarcasm and low blows come from frustration. Frustration at not having a say, from being ignored by the town board, being silenced in the pages of the bee and other papers, frustration from fear of retaliation because of business and public associations. Yeah, there's freedom of speech in America. But the reality is that certain people cannot speak up because they are in business and worried about being harassed by town. There are people who have family members that work for the town and afraid they will lose their jobs if they speak up. There are actually people who work for the town, or groups associated with the town who can't speak up for fear of losing their position.
The town board creates the problems and when the residents complain, the town board tells them it's the resident's fault.

Other employees that work for us have said the same thing. A few that work in the city of Buffalo made comments that Brown/crew can get rather pushy when they don't want you to speakup.

How many people believe that is true?

    Agree

I know it's true! Business owners and those who work for the town anywhere cannot be open in opinions because of the fear of retaliation.
On account of being a democracy and run by the people, we are the only nation in the world that has to keep a government four years, no matter what it does.
