(not part of the Bufnews article) *As another local Democrat posted here recently - Its not easy getting endorsed by Local Dem Committee's - unless your "Locally Approved" - the Local Committee have for years endorsed those who they say, "Best serves our people" or as another appointee stated while taking his oath of office, "We will serve those who support us"

A large faction of those pushing the "Anti Zellner / Pro Max" push comes from two well know party players - Lancaster Vice Chairman Robert Giza and his rumored LAN Dem Committee Controller/Parks Boss T.McCracken.

Dem Committee Controllers Daniel S. McParlane of West Seneca, Frank C. Max Jr. of Cheektowaga (leader of the party’s anti-Zellner faction), Mary Alice Grant of Aurora, Richard Rose of Marilla and Mary I. Julian of Wales.

Democratic town chiefs protest lack of Erie County Legislature endorsements

Erie County Democrats are heading toward election season in disarray once again after an anti-headquarters faction of town chairmen complained to state party leaders that Chairman Jeremy J. Zellner failed to convene endorsement meetings for County Legislature candidates.
The result, they say, is a free-for-all of primary contests from challengers recognizing the opening created by the absence of endorsed candidates.
*(or primaries run by "Non-Committee Controlled Candidates - therefore allowing voters to actually select the candidates they want on the Ballot instead of just having to vote for the designated "Party Player/Candidates)

“Given the timing of this whole thing, it is not convenient for anybody,” he said, adding he expects to field Democratic candidates in all 11 districts.

McParlane, however, said divisive primaries will now take place all over the county because challengers recognize the absence of candidates with the advantage of backing by party leaders. He labeled the situation a “sham.”

*( Once again - by allowing open primaries - the Local Party Bosses can't just dictate who the candidates will be - Party Line Voters can have a actual chance to vote on who represents the voters - not just the party.)

“Just because you can’t control an endorsement meeting doesn’t mean the committee members don’t have the right to choose who would best represent the area,” he said.

But Zellner said the whole effort is orchestrated by Max to foment more disunity in the party.

“We’re busy trying to put a party together, and Frank and company want to continue divisive politics here,” he said. “I’m not interested in it.”

*For far too long local Party Committee Controllers and those who "Support" them - those who benefit directly from Patronage, Zoning Control, IDA tax breaks, promised jobs - have had the lock on Local Town and Village level candidates endorsements.

Voting Party Members are just given a choice of which inside "Party Player" the "Committee Leaders" say are their candidates.

Isn't it time for Change ? Shouldn't the quest for any "Party's Endorsement" be subject to a "Public Vote" not just three guys in a room ?
