The special meeting for the municipal water project for the Town of Holland was held tonight. 99% of the people in the audience told the town board that they are NOT in favor of bringing Erie County water to the Town of Holland. The audience heard two proposals that were presented at tonight's meeting.

    1. Drill a new well . connect the old well to the new well and install some new waterlines. The cost was a little over 1 Million dollars.

    2. Proposal #2 would be to hook up to Erie County Water. They SAID it would be cheaper. Yes the WATER would be cheaper, but the total water bill would be over $400.00 more than what is currently being paid.

There was many people speaking out against the project. It was apparent from the start, that the whole meeting was slanted in favor of the $4.5 MILLION dollar Erie County Water project. It was said that the project would be paid for over a 30-year period. I took a survey of the people at the meeting. The majority of the people in the audience were at least 65 years of age. The retirees of Holland are going to have to shoulder an unfair cost on their fixed incomes.

It was also said that the $600.00 a year cost was baised on a property valued at $100,000.00 . A home assessed at $200,000.00 would see their share of the water bill double that of someone whose house is assessed at $100,000.00 . How is that fair? A water bill should be baised on the amount of water used, not of the assessed value of someone's house.

Near the end of the meeting, they announced that a special meeting would be held this Wednesday, (2 days from now!!!),
to vote on a whether to go this the Town water project or to go with the more expensive 4.5 million dollar 30-year cost of going with Erie County Water. 48 hours notice seems awfully short notice. That is not enough time to publish it in the local paper.
